The thing is we don't have to face them directly, causing obstructions in terrain like pit-fall traps or rock slides, even collapsing a roof above their heads is just as effective.

Fortunately, i have two thirds written already.

And you guys finally get to find out what you actually looks like! As i was a dumbass and forgot to go through that pages ago!))

Hmm, there's a thing about the presentation in this SG I've been thinking for a while but not wanted to say because it can easily be taken the wrong way. It's great, clearly most readers don't have the issue I'm having, and I consider the huge amount of attention to detail admirable and wish more stories did it, but I'm often having a hard time following during the more intense battles. I can't think of anything that should be actually changed, some markers of especially important  bits, transitions, and occasional mini-recaps would probably halp but I'm not sure they're worth it, I just wanted to make you aware of the issue?

Currently drunk. Update will probably be sometime tonight, however, the last third might not be as fluent as the first two thirds due to being drunk......))

I wasn't as drunk as i thought however if anything comes across as rambling or incoherent, let me know and I'll change it/fix it

And yes, i had a very wonderful Valentines!))

Okay so far i say we do the following {{and yes i edited}}

1. Find out if we can write in English and if so maybe write a letter about who we are and ask if we can communicate with the Vanguard more {obviously more covertly}.

2. Tell Ari about the developments that have unfolded. She must know and Battle Net will help us with the message :D. Oh and maybe have a Emergency strategy meeting. The plan is more or less the same but maybe we can create some kind of protocol when dealing with vanguard attacks from their "super shock troopers", War fighters, Marines, and standard. So far standard is their weakest form and the bulk of their forces.

3. Try deep breathing  exercises to help calm us down after remembering {preferably do this first!}.

4. Ask for a review on what troops our brood have left and if we can ask for some reinforcements in the form of calling in regulars in. If we secure the old moorey HQ then the Regulars will help us guard/destroy the data banks.

5. Schedule a scenario shooting under the brood leaders management. We REALLY need some extra practice at least to keep the rust off.

You try to calm yourself, attempting to reign in your emotions. Now is not the time to be like this. You promise yourself that you will, one day, try to get back to them.

After some time, you feel yourself calming, the tears drying on your face, your breathing steadying.

Trying to take your mind off of your little episode, you attempt to writing in English. You grab a small tablet computer off of your side desk and, selecting the write function, you attempt to write in English.

Whilst you can visualise the words, sentences, phrases and other things you need, you can only manage to write a few short words. You try multiple times, however your hands just dome seem to be able to write the words properly. You drop the tablet between your legs in frustration, growling.

You decide to contact Ari over the battle net. You tell her about the events that have happened, and the possible weaknesses the Vanguard shields have against solid projectiles. You advise her to let the broods know. She is shocked by most of it, as shocked as you were. You can imagine she is shaking her head at the moment.

“How can they expect us to operate in these conditions? Any multitude of things could go wrong! There is high chance that we’ll just be annihilated by the Vanguard before we even get close to the planet!”

“I don’t know, Ari, but those are our orders, and I don’t see any way out of it. At least, at the moment. We stick to the plan we had before though, with only some minor changes. I’ll talk to you about them later. Our deployment late tomorrow, if my Tablet is correct, so we have time to think.”

“OK, then. Later” Ari says, closing the connection.

You pick up your Tablet again. You select the option to overview the Broods conditions.

Thankfully, you see that your brood, which you share with Ari, as well as Ankara’s brood are fully intact after the fight. You breathe a sigh of relief. Elianna’s brood is, however, at half strength, and half of them have debilitating wounds that will take time to heal. It seems that for this mission, you have lost roughly one third of your manpower.

Checking the available Morey forces, you see that there are virtually none available to bolster your ranks. With the beating the Morey military has taken in this system, there is barely enough troops left to man all posts aboard the fleets, and all available troops on the Morey strongholds in this sector have been put on high alert for immediate dispatch to the central planets. It seems the Senatorium has ordered a full scale assault on both Slinkar and Vanguard positions.

“What are they thinking?” You think to yourself. At this rate, every Morey in the system is going to end up dead or captured.

You debate whether you should get planetside immediately, however the fleet is still in retreat, the supplies aren’t ready and the shuttles aren’t prepped. The entire fleet is in chaos. Now is not the time.

As a precaution against bad rolls Katia should practice how to say two words in English "we surrender", in private of course
+1
Yeah, if this could get thrown in that would be great.

As a final thought before moving on to other things, you decide to try out a phrase that may get you out of a bad situation should you be up against the Vanguard.

The phrase ‘We Surrender’.

You concentrate on the phrase. You form your lips into the words are you try to remember how they are said in English. Once you have the knack of doing that, you attempt to apply sound to them.

You feel your vocal chords strain. They must have been drastically changed as just saying these words is actually hurting you. However, eventually, something happens.

“W-We Shurheendir” You stutter, followed by intense coughing. To your mind, that was a failure, however you do think that anyone listening to it would be able to pick out the words you are trying to say, if they can speak English of course.

You try to repeat it. Your second attempt is a spluttering mess however. You try a third time and come out with what you first said.

You repeat it as many times as you can manage, with little improvement, however you can at least say the words, roughly, and loud enough others could hear you. You will have to consider that a success, for now.

Now that Katia remembered her past, she should swear a private oath to get revenge on those who stole her life, after finding who gave the order, probably swear to deliver an unfortunate accident^TM  to the Presidentess

With that over, your mind starts to drift once again back to your past. You make a silent oath to hunt down the person who gave the order for the creation of the Vat-Born, and make them pay, dearly. You sorely hope it is the presiddentess. You would love to skin her alive for not only ruining your past but also what she has already done to you as a Vat-Born.

Now that Katia remembered her past, she should swear a private oath to get revenge on those who stole her life, after finding who gave the order, probably swear to deliver an unfortunate accident^TM  to the Presidentess
She should also question the moral dilema. She might be in a new body but is her inside {soul} still human? Is ala ashar the one who gave the order?
Is she tooo be punished even though she was afraid of her entire race's extinction at the hands of a secretive Human organization you never heard of?
What about Ari?

She should debate these idea's really.

Your mind wonders further, to philosophy. You start to question whether you are still human. Is your soul the same in this heavily modified version of your original one? Can you really go back to Earth? Or is what Ala-Shar said originally true, that you can never go back, at least the way you are now? And what of your friends here? Elianna, Ankara and most importantly Ari? Could you take them with you?

You get up and stand in front of your walk in wardrobes mirror. You still look roughly human, if a little taller than average for a human female. You then realise you never really got a closer look at yourself ever since you exited your vat.

You stare at yourself. You would definitely say you are attractive, your body toned and firm and your features feminine. Ala-Shar was right, however, there are obvious changes.

You notice your skin tone has a very faint tinge of dark purple in its creamy white complexion.  Your eyes slightly more almond shaped and inclined than is normal for humans. Your eye colour is a purplish blue with semi-verticle pupils. Your ears look human, however they taper slightly at their points, something you didn’t notice when you first saw a Morey, mostly because all the Morey you’ve seen have very long hair, as you do too.
Mentioning hair, you cannot fail to notice that your hair colour is an almost stark white. Now that you think about it, so is Ari’s, Ankara’s and Elianna’s. Everyone else seems to have maintained their natural hair colour. You wonder whether it is the effect of your temperament on the nanites that made your changes, after all, all four of you were troublemakers before your were implanted with the probes and all four have white hair.
Moving further down, your lips have a slight bluish tinge and your teeth are more pointed, although you cannot feel any more rows of teeth in your mouth. You notice in the mirror that your canine teeth are unnaturally long for a human.

You pick up your tablet, curious about whether your changes are just superficial. You hold out the tablet and stand still as the tablet does a scan of your body.

You are shocked.

Redundant organs have been removed, such as the appendix, and the remaining systems improved in efficiency. Your lungs have been enlarged, as have your heart, stomach, liver and kidneys. You now also seem to have one additional heart. Your intestines have been shortened, although not overly so, so that they resemble the intestinal systems of a pure carnivore, not an omnivore. You think you may be able to eat things which aren’t meat or dairy, but you would have to choose carefully. Safer to just stick to a meat, fish and dairy diet from now on.

You guess that the presidentess was not kidding when she called you a beast. You resemble one far more now than before you were snatched away from earth.

Your muscles, bones, tendons, ligaments and supporting structures are far stronger, as was obvious anyway. You also see that your blood vessels have been reinforced, and many parts of your body have been essentially rewired to be more efficient and tougher.

You can see the implants in your eyes and brain on the tablet computer in your hands.

“Am I human?” You ask yourself out loud. Looking at the evidence before you, you aren’t exactly sure what you are. But one thing is for certain, as you are now, you can never go back to Earth.

she might be merciful to ala-shar, but if it was her idea, go old testament on her, and if she tells who did it, be merciful and kill the higher up after knocking her out, and whether or not the Presidentess had the idea in the first place, she gets two strokes of the hammer of cosmic vengeance (a laser pistol will do).

but we have plans to to return our branding to he Presidentess.

shoot Karista in the limbs, reciting all the crimes done to Katia with each shot, and when she is unable to use them, then the branding should be done, and afterwards, Katia should state what the greatest evil done to her in her mind is AKA: "This is for ... bitch" and then shoot Karista in the face, with an optional offer of forgiveness and redemption at the beginning of the encounter, which Karista may or may not take.

As you sit on your bed again, your rage comes back. You contemplate getting violent on Ala-Shar and anyone else who could possibly have wronged you and your sisters, however, you quickly smack that down as it would get you nowhere and beside’s you haven’t got enough evidence to accuse anyone yet.

Establishing control in an entire system will take time. The Vanguard will, presumably, need to either send out small groups or take their time getting to all their objectives. This would seem to require that we accelerate out timetable. Fortunately, the vanguard will have destabilised the Slinkar, which is most of our strategic concerns. I suggest landing within at least two days of our objectives, adopting sparse formations, and attempting to surround and destroy any small groups, while avoiding large confrontations outside of our objectives. The primary objective is the HQ. The secondary is the Spaceport, and opportunity objectives are anything that might be able to damage the Vanguard fleet. A diversionary assault against a Slinkar sight might be nice, but it would likely take too many of our forces if it were to have any chance of surviving. There are various ploys that might divert forces from our objectives, but really, with time limited, we are probably best off just trying to take as much advantage as possible of any element of surprise that we can muster. Send infiltrators ahead to disarm sensors and prevent retreat of anything that we engage...

You look over the plan you came up with. Judging by the new conditions, things will have to take place at a lightning fast pace to have any chance of succeeding. Diversionary tactics will take too long, sap too much manpower and cause unwanted attention so, you decide, you will have to modify the plan.

It does seem however that the arrival of the Vanguard may have reduced the possible Slinkar forces you will have to face, which may be beneficial to you. Based on this assumption you play with the idea of landing within at least two days of your objectives, adopting sparse formations, and attempting to surround and destroy any small groups, while avoiding large confrontations outside of your objectives, essentially going directly for the HQ, with the spaceport being a secondary objective, only attacking when the odds are in your favour.

You decide that this will have to be based on the conditions on the ground, which you do not know, yet, in full detail. If the Slinkar are heavily diminished already, a full on assault of the main HQ facility would be an obvious option, especially as they will not have any ground-facing defences to help them. The only thing you can be sure of is that you should be able to land at least within a couple of days of your objective.

One thing you do decide on however is the use of infiltrators for yet another job. That of disarming sensors in the facilities, and the prevention of enemy force movement. The last thing you want is for enemies to get away when – if – you defeat them. This would draw undue attention to you, which you really don’t want.

((I do wonder how the GM will structure combat/strategy))

Btw in total 30k troops is probably more than enough to take us out. We may need to go Vietcong on these guys...scratch that for sure.
Here's how I see this playing out, since my brain is a bit more operational right now.

The vanguard are either attacking the HQ or not.  If they are, we are probably fucked and never going to be able to take it, because I doubt we can kill them before they can reinforce themselves.  If they didn't know about the surface based defenses previously, (therefore causing them to attack the HQ and secure it since its dangerous) then they would once they had taken it over due to seeing them.  I say this because defenses that can damage them probably aren't small or disguised to not look like enourmous weapon systems.  Maybe hidden from orbit, but they will be in the base at that point.

If the vanguard have anything to do with the HQ we will be truly and honestly fucked and attacking would be suicide as a result.  We would be best off hiding and going Vietcong as mentioned, or surrendering.

However, if the vanguard don't know about the HQ and haven't attacked it yet, then we have a golden fucking opportunity.  If they don't know, then the slinkar will be pulling out everyone except a skeleton crew in a desperate attempt to stop the vanguard elsewhere with everything they have.  The place will probably be almost totally unprotected compared to what we would have had to deal with earlier.

I think we have to drop regardless, because alien politicians, but we need to scout out the HQ.  If there are any signs of vanguard presence flee then become guerrilla fighters (however ye spell that).  If not then we just attack the fucking place based on what the situation looks like when we get boots on the ground.  This needs to happen as soon as possible because its obvious the vanguard move quickly.

They crushed a decades long stalemate in space, I doubt it will take them much longer to make headway on the surface.  We aren't going to have mountains of time to use the defenses if we manage to take the place.  We are facing a massively superior foe and the path to victory is narrow.  That being said, LETS DO DIS.
Okay that makes 3 i believe who agree with my Vietcong idea. May the dice gods have mercy on us.
So this new need for speed means that taking the spaceport is a waste of time. We should drop some Infiltrators by the HQ to scout, but prepare to take the spaceport in the case that Vanguard are already at the base.

You realise your plan verges on two things:
A)   The Vanguard not knowing about the HQ’s anti-orbit defences
B)   The HQ being free from Vanguard attack and/or control
If either are the case, then the plan will not work.

You come up with a contingency plan. You will, should the Vanguard be attacking your objectives, fade into the jungle and commence an insurgency. Guerrilla style warfare designed to disrupt and damage the enemy as much as possible, hopefully picking off men and materials from their forces.

Much may hang on this, and you are not sure your forces would be able to carry out such an operation, as fresh to warfare as they are, however you will just have to hope they pull through. It will be do or die on that planet.

Pinging Ari and your sisters again, you tell them of your modifications. It goes down well, with all of your sisters agreeing that this is the best course of action. They definitely seem to want to put themselves wholeheartedly into this operation. The infiltrators especially seem a little nervous about their jobs in this operation, yet curiously they also seem to be the most fired up.

*

So this new need for speed means that taking the spaceport is a waste of time. We should drop some Infiltrators by the HQ to scout, but prepare to take the spaceport in the case that Vanguard are already at the base. However, we should begin discussion on how to assault the Slinkar defended HQ.

For that, we need some information on the design and the surrounding terrain.

From the files you have access to, you find the blueprints for the HQ Facility. As you relay what you are seeing to your sisters, telling them to memorise it so they know their way around, you take in the facilities design.

The entire facility is made up of one central very large, heavily fortified building, with smaller, yet still large, buildings in concentric rings around it. The main control room, as well as the central defence mainframe, main shield generator and other major systems are located in the central building at ground level, with roughly a mile of floors and other levels above it to protect it against orbital bombardment and air strikes.

That will be your main target. You will, however, have to secure the entire facility. Fortunately for you, each building only has a couple of main entrances, with no smaller ‘service’ entrances, which makes them very easy to defend by a small force. Also, between the buildings that make up the rings of the facility, there is a tough, tall defensive wall on which many ground facing and AAA weapons batteries are mounted which means each building is a chokepoint that could be held by as few as a squad of soldiers each.

The building is a verifiable citadel. Curious, you look up the estimated casualty figures for the Slinkar force that took the facility.

“Wow....almost a million Slinkar troops died taking that place...” You mutter to yourself. From some of the recordings of the battle taken from orbit, the Slinkar were using their dead as ramps up and over the walls.

The surrounding terrain, when it was under Morey control, was cleared of jungle up to three miles from the outer perimeter of the facility, however now that the facility is in Slinkar hands, and it is all but abandoned, the jungle has rapidly reclaimed the land, with thick, almost impenetrable jungle reaching right up to the walls, vines and plant life now taking root in the walls themselves. For those skilled enough, you observe, it could be a way in......

*

Well, we should stick to the spaceport plan unless we have to. We still have a chance to pull this off without Vanguard interference.

Now that you have slightly modified your plan, and put in place a backup contingency should things not turn out to be ideal, you tell your sisters to prepare. They will need to check all of their equipment, their rations, their suits and their weapons. You tell them to get in the zone, as tomorrow, they will head into a warzone few Vat-Born have seen. You directly tell Ari and her brood’s remnants to aid in the preparation of their greenhorn sisters. They agree, thankfully.

That should at least help you prepare for what is to come.

Next steps:

1. Quick practice including firing range practice, survival tactics, a briefing of everything we know about the planet and our assumptions, and a "we will survive no matter what" speech.

2. skip to where we land on the planet cause we honestly need to be their. This intense waiting is killing me.

Lets try to creep in using the jungle as cover, now we will be spoted and when that happens we have a few minutes to cover as much ground as we can before the buildings are locked down.

Can we get air or orbit support? a few shells to one side may help us trick them in to thinking where coming from a way we aren't.

If you can think of some way to convince the admiral to give you some ships capable of orbital strikes, and if you can think of some way of getting them past the sensors (of one of the most advanced factions in the known universe) in one piece, Yes.

Otherwise, you will have no air or orbital support. You will have only the weapons and manpower available to you at the moment.
