"Where did I come from?"
"How did I get here?"
"Where are the life-boats?"
"Wake up the others!"
"I want to talk to my family!"
"How much time do we have?"
"What am I supposed to do for you?"
"Show me where the nearest window is!"
"What happens if I shoot the window?"
Not necessarily in that order...

"Where did I come from?"

"I do not know. I am not in command of the acquisition teams and there is some....friction....between their Commander and I. Your little stunt here will make likely aggravate our relations..."

"How did I get here?"

"You were most likely taken during your sleep by one of our acquisition teams who deemed you a worthy subject for this project. A contained matter teleporter would be used to take you from your bed. You would then reappear on the star-craft, which is where you would be placed in a containment unit, not unlike the vat you woke up in."

"Wake up the others!"

"I'm afraid i cannot do that. Each and every one of your brood sisters has to wake up on their own accord, similar to a chick escaping from its egg. Upon awakening, they will be seen to by a small team of scientists who would get her ready for her new life and role in our society, depending on what that is. You were the first in your batch and, i must say, you seem to be the most aggressive and rebellious. The others don't show your....distaste....for our authority."

"I want to talk to my family!"

"Impossible, for a variety of reasons. One main reason it is highly improbable and careless is due to the presence of Vanguard troops. Vanguard maintains a presence around their home-world, watching, guarding. Our acquisition ships and scouts can get by because they use our latest stealth technology. If we were to let you talk to your family, amongst the other effects that would have on your ignorant society such as the presence of non-humans, it would alert the Vanguard's forces. We'd be dead before we made it back to the mothership."

She pauses.

"There are also the changes we have done to your physical and mental state. Any human could see you are different. Its one of the main reasons Vanguard's populace and military don't set foot on their home-world often. You will see why once you look at yourself in a mirror."

"How much time do we have?"

"There is no rush. The process you went through took 10 Earth years, or 2 galactic years. Unless Vanguard attacks, we should not be pressed for time".

"What am I supposed to do for you?"

"You were taken, modified and mentally conditioned you to be a soldier for our cause. Once the final touches have been completed, you will have the knowledge of how to kill each hostile race thousands of different ways, the knowledge and skills needed to use most weapons and equipment you could find in the field and the intelligence to outsmart most opponents. Above all, you will be 100% loyal to our cause...." Her eyes narrow slightly and she lets a smile inch its way onto her face. You dont like the sounds of that last sentence.

"Show me where the nearest window is!"

"That would be on the bridge. And no, we are not taking you there. Not when we have the final preparations to complete, other members of your brood to see to and especially when you are volatile and armed. The last thing we need is for you to destroy a navigation console or shoot the Admiral or some other important official. Support and funding for this project is shaky enough without your antics....." She suddenly shuts up. "I shouldn't have said that."

"What happens if I shoot the window?"

"Nothing, at least, not with that weapon. They are plasma shielded, hyper-dense military grade materials designed to withstand the impact of mass driver ordnance and high-powered ship-borne energy weapons. Your weapon is nothing but a pea-shooter when compared to them."

"Where are the life-boats?"

"If you mean the escape pods, they are locked down once the alarm is raised, and I can assure you, the alarm in this section of the ship has been raised. You do not have the technical know-how to hack them before we apprehend you. You would also have to get out of this lab....." Her grin deepens at those last words. You don't like that one bit. She is hiding something, you are sure of it.

Look for a vent, drain, conduit, service hatch, etc. and make a run for it, try kicking/ramming/shooting through walls if need be.

Look for a vent, drain, conduit, service hatch, etc.

You look, but you cant see any. this room seems to only have one entrance and one exit, and any vents and service ducts seem to be well hidden and/or secured.

....and make a run for it, try kicking/ramming/shooting through walls if need be.

You suddenly burst forward running, hoping to find an easily accessible escape. The guard teams however must have been anticipating an stunt like this and are in hot pursuit, almost close enough to grab you.

You skillfully weave in-between the vats. There must be dozens if not hundreds of them, all containing a single human female bobbing up and down serenely in the green gloop.

Your pursuers keep up with you. In fact, they are practically on top of you. One especially lithe guard jumps on you bowling you down.

Your weapon unfortunately skitters away somewhere in front of where you fall.

The rest of the guards pile on top of you. Once you are constrained with your ankles tied together with some sort of plastic wrapping and your hands in some type of futuristic handcuff contraption, Ala-Shar saunters up, a smug grin plastering her face.

As she takes an injection gun out of a small case she is carrying she says:

"I knew you wouldn't escape." she almost giggles. Carefully she inserts a small vial of blue liquid into the injection gun, pressing it to your neck. "Good night, my sweet. Sweet dreams" As the blue liquid shoots into your neck, the last thing you hear is Ala-Shars laughing.

Sometime later.

You awake with a start, and a banging headache.

You are lying strapped onto a padded metal bench at a 45 degree angle. You realise you are clothed. Strange thoughts of loyalty to Ala-Shar and the Morey matriarchy fill your head. You try to dismiss them halfheartedly but fail. You feel disappointed in yourself although you weren't putting much effort into it anyway.

You look up. There seems to be some sort of metal robotic machine above you. The only other thing apart from you, the bench you're on and a small metal stool in the corner of the otherwise naked room.

"I cant see a door...." you think to yourself "I wonder where i am..."

You hear a swish-swoop sound, and someone enters, their face shadowed as the only light is focused on you.

"How are you feeling?"

The voice didn't sound like Ala-Shar. It was a bit more timid and friendly. The person steps forward.

Before you stands a young human woman, wearing the same get-up as you. Concern fills her eyes. She does some small gestures in front of what looks like a sensor on the bench and several panels separate from the bench. She is currently focused on them.

What do you do?

"I am guessing they completed the mental changes such as the loyalty implantation. But the question is now, why are you here and not Morey Scientist?"

Try to find out the extend of the new knowledge you got by either talking to this girl or finding it mentally. Also, try to isolate why you feel loyal to Morey Matriarchy and fight it.

"I am guessing they completed the mental changes such as the loyalty implantation. But the question is now, why are you here and not Morey Scientist?"

She looks away from the consoles.

"The head scientist is busy supervising the awakening of the next 32 of your brood sisters. I am here because of my not-so-unique-anymore history" She briefly looks back at the consoles before continuing."Every new soldier is assigned a mentor from one of the previous broods before been certified for active duty. You are a special case, due to your rebellious nature and strong will. I was once like you. Rebellious, strong willed and cocksure. I can sympathise with you, and they saw that as both beneficial and a possible shortcut. They probably think that I can break you in and fortify that artificially placed loyalty with real loyalty. I have also been implanted with supervisory and scientific knowledge due to my multirole station. As well as a brood leader, someone who leads their brood into battle, i am also a scientific assistant."

She turns back to the consoles again.

"My name is Ari, by the way. Not my original name, though. I was named by one of the scientists. Most of our kind don't have names, but numbers. Whats your name?"

Try to find out the extend of the new knowledge you got by either talking to this girl or finding it mentally.

"Do those consoles tell you what they did to me whilst i was unconscious?" You ask.

"During your sleep, the Morey scientists placed the finishing touches. A loyalty probe, plus extensive knowledge of Morey technology, command structure, ranks, society, medical knowledge, clothing etc etc. They have not implanted you military role, yet, as that is for you to choose. And you will choose, the loyalty probe they implanted into your striatum, the part of the brain responsible for loyalty, will make sure of that. It is impossible to remove once placed due to its nano-technological construction and integration, courtesy of captured Vanguard tech...." She answered, without looking from the console.

She continued: "They also extended and improved your memory, implanted multi-range optical implants onto your eyes, meaning you can see in infrared, ultraviolet, thermal and magnetic vision, and checked the physical reinforcement of your bones, muscles, tendons and organs completed properly."

"And finally, they implanted a C&C module into your head, allowing you to communicate, organise and command other troops. It seems they haven't decided to break tradition due to your rebel personality....."

Also, try to isolate why you feel loyal to Morey Matriarchy and fight it.

Whilst politely listening to Ari, you probe deeper into your subconscious, trying to use your willpower to suppress the loyalty probe. You make some headway. It is still there, and from what Ari said it will never go away, but you can feel that you have managed to limit its effects on your mind. At least, for now.

What do you do now?

Alright, Ari. I can't really remember my name, but can you remember your original name?
Why haven't I seen any males of our species? Is there a particular reason for it?
Also, can you release me out of these holdings or are you here to make sure everything in my body is working correctly?

Alright, Ari. I can't really remember my name, but can you remember your original name?

Ari seems to think for a few moments. "No, I've tried many times before, but i cannot remember much of my past life. I can remember vague bits and pieces, some events and other influential groups, but names, dates and most events elude me." A wave of sadness passes briefly over her face.

Why haven't I seen any males of our species? Is there a particular reason for it?

"We are the foot-soldiers of a Matriarchy. The higher ups, for better or for worse, want their would be saviours to be female. Its a silly reason, i know, but some of these Morey women make the radical feminists of Earth look like 1950's housewives" She smiles at her little joke. "The Scientists such as Ala-Shar wanted to use both male and female humans, but they were vetoed by the politicians and their pet military commanders."

Also, can you release me out of these holdings or are you here to make sure everything in my body is working correctly?

She frowns. "I am only an assistant. To open these bonds you would need the authorisation codes of the head scientist." She looks behind you to where you think the door should be. "Speaking of which, she should be here soon."

Ask about the current political climate between the military, scientist, and the politicians.

"Ari, so how long you have been on active duty?"
"Is there any particular reason why they choose you as brood leader besides personality characteristics?"

If the Ala-Shar comes finish off the conversation with Ari and shut up.

Also, keep focusing on isolating the loyalty probe from your psyche.

Trying to just *supress* somehting like that is silly and futile. What We need to do to escape is *disassociate loyalty as such from behaviour*, so that no matter how genuinely loyal we are we won't see that as a reason to aid them. Maybe convince ourselves of a philosophy where everyone is better of without our help or something.

Loyalty is fundamentally evil, it assumes that the familiar is more worthy than the unknown, which, given that the familiar is a product of pure chance, and that the unknown is a product of pure chance, is a wholly unfounded assumption. One should endeavour to gain information about ones circumstances and pursue a goal that is as well supported and reliable as one can achieve. Perhaps something along the lines of perpetuation and preservation of variety, so as to maintain a sustained and inspired future...

Debate philosophy with Ari, and ask her if there is a way to inhibit the door, perhaps have it disable input to perform a diagnostic process, or apply an overload to its controls, so as to require repairs.

Ask about the current political climate between the military, scientist, and the politicians.

You ask her about the current relations between what you believe to be the three main groups, the Scientists, the Military and the Politicians.

"Although you may not agree, the scientists are the more humane of the three. They see us as their children, however much we are in need of.....guidance."She looks at you when she says the last word, wincing. "They try not to treat us badly, however they can be firm when needed to be. They are like this with most of their more sentient experiments. the Politicians and the military think they are a soft touch and therefore try to take advantage of them or bully them into projects against their will. The scientists though are made of sterner stuff. You yourself have seen how skilled in hand to hand combat Ala-Shar is."

"The relationship between the Political caste and the commanders of the armed forces is much more complex. It is all rooted in the power struggles thirteen galactic years ago. To put it shortly, the Morey Matriarchy descended into civil war after the Slinkar assassinated the Supreme Matriarch. Eventually, after five galactic years, the Politicians managed to come out on top, using the Military's own internal fissures to their advantage. Since, they have executed the old guard and replaced them with younger, yet still skillful, leaders who submit to their will. The military these days is little more than the politicians puppet."

"Ari, so how long you have been on active duty?"

"Two and a half Galactic years, or 5 Earth years. My brood specialises in anti-Slinkar warfare." She looks pensive for a moment. "I have lost sisters who i had grown close to over the last 3.5 years of fighting. This assignment is a welcome reprieve. I hope you never have to fight them. They do horrible and hellish things to any of us they capture, and they enjoy taking prisoners...."

"Is there any particular reason why they choose you as brood leader besides personality characteristics?"

"I was told by one of the scientists soon after my awakening that I was chosen due to my skill in martial arts on Earth. They liked my discipline and stalwart fighting spirit. I think you were similar, from the files I've seen. You shouldn't worry. You'll like life here. They wont treat you badly, at least, when they aren't sending you into battle against 20 foot tall insects....."

Also, keep focusing on isolating the loyalty probe from your psyche.

Also, keep focusing on isolating the loyalty probe from your psyche.

+1 and try to suppress her loyalty probe a little.

You continue your campaign against the loyalty probe. However, something seems to strengthen it. It pushes you back a little. A, to you, nauseous sense of loyalty to the Morey Matriarchy sweeps over you. You try to continue your resistance, but it is currently winning. You wonder whether Ari went through this too.

You think up a new tactic. Try to outsmart the probe using philosophy! As you start trying to reason to yourself that they are better off without your help no matter how loyal you are, the probe seems to seize a part of your subconscious, using it against you. Your head becomes a debating hall for two parts of your subconscious.

"DAMN THESE ALIENS AND THEIR DAMNED TECHNOLOGY!" You mentally scream to yourself.

As you are about to ask Ari several questions, the door opens again, and Ala-Shar, accompanied now by a Human assistant dressed in the same fashion as you and Ari.

"I see the two of you are getting along swimmingly" She uses her patented soft smile. "And i see the loyalty probe is doing its job.... How are you feeling B7-0001?"

At her address, your body goes limp and you feel as if you are drunk. "I am feeling fine today, my leader" Your voice sounds hollow, robotic. 'What the hell was that? I didnt mean to say that!' you think to yourself. You feel frightened and powerless. Ari flinches and Ala-Shar's assistant looks away. The head scientist, however, giggles like a school girl and reaches for your cheek, slowly caressing it.

"Oh yes, it is definitely doing its job. Soon, my child, we'll have your wild nature tamed, wont we?"

You feel your face involuntarily change into a smile. Your body nods its head. As Ala-Shar leans back, whatever was controlling your movements and speech seems to let go. You look at her with bewilderment, anger, as well as fear now, present in your eyes.

"Now, B7-0001, you will choose a name and your role. Will you cooperate?"

What do you do?

You do so. You are pretty good at imitations. She gives you a bemused look. Ari and the unknown assistant smile.
