Turn him down on the job offer. The opportunities for advancement aren't great.

Also, isn't our sword a sword of ice? Setting it on fire wouldn't do much. Lightning would be much better.

Basically, I want a chance to contemplate loot before leaving and doing stuff, in case the loot affects our plans.

In the CHEST are the items that you raided from the GNOLL'S DEN a week ago.
There is a ROUND STONE SLAB, whose purpose or function have been unable to discern. The TOME OF DARK MAGIC may have been of use, if you had been able to read it. It is adorned with either an exceptionally detailed stone carving of an eye, or an actual eye that just happens to be made of stone.
There is a POTION OF DEMON BLOOD. Though it contains only an exceedingly small amount of actual demon blood, it still causes a massive increase in physical strength and constitution as well as limited regeneration. Side effects may include dry skin, subconjunctival hemorrhage, itching, growth of one or more horns, hair loss, hematophagia, acne, and the loss of one's soul.
There is a WIZARD'S NOTEPAD, which is a convenient way for people to keep in touch. When you write something in the notepad, it can be sent to any other notepad who's password you know. You know of no other notepads, so it is mostly worthless at the moment.
You also took the STRANGE SKULL, as a trophy.
