Can't say I've ever done this on purpose...

... but it's not unusual for me to generate a world to actually play on, only to end up scrolling around and marveling in the greatness of the new world.

I always keep a copy of any save I plan to use to see it without any Forts of adventurers anywhere. They are pretty things.

No, me too. I got interested in it, made my own little project in procedural world generation and now will take an internship in professional landscape generation  :D

Nah, I make new maps every two or three fortresses/adventurers, just because I like to see how the map turns out and watch the worldgen process, look through the historical record, etc.
