If it weren't this week, I'd consider it but I'm rather enmeshed in quite a few RL responsibilities and Ebentijenta over in the other thread.  If there isn't anybody to take a turn after the... 16th I could give it a shot?

We can start the list over if we run out of players, and hopefully have more people once whoever wants to play a second year is done.

I'd be down for that. I have a conference this weekend but, I'm sure I'll find the time.

You have work to do and an orc fort to run.  I'll take it after sackhead unless someone else wants a turn.  KnitTie, you can go before or after me if you get time.

I cant say I have a great deal of time, but as the previous overseer has decided he cant go on, and the next spot is open... I will have a quick run at it.

I do suck at bolds, they die so easy...

If I cant finish the year in a few days I will post what I have done , as I will be then traveling about for the next week and only have a crappy laptop.

Sounds good Navatar.  You did a great job with the orcs, I can't wait to see what you manage with the kobolds.

I just wanted to leave this here, because it is intended for succession forts, but either people think its silly, or they dont know that it can be done. Its a feature I made for succession forts, but seemingly no one every uses it. So, please excuse me spamming this in the masterwork-related succession fort threads.

You can build the category titles in the workshop/furnace menu as an actual workshop. It will spell out the name. Thats all. Intended for labeling areas ingame, to make it easier on the next overseer. Or as decoration.

O god do Kobolds die easy...  and children hunters? Not a single Kestrel child is going to make it to adulthood. Either some animal kills them or they get abducted.

Just for Meph I built a magic label.

I did capture the bronze statue that killed several bolds.

Spring is done, nothing really happened, will do a write up after summer I think

Journal of Nav, Kobold BossBold

Early Spring, 103

I am Nav, LizardBold of WAR!

With looming threats of the bigjobs, I have been punished by the clan and placed as War Leader, which means I get to boss everybody about!

First things, whats that awful smell? Following my nose I track down the stench to the kitchen where Meph is wallowing in rotten food.  Looking at the crazy Bold I ask him what the hell he thinks he is doing.
Meph replied “Gotta cook ALL THE FOOD!”
“But, but… we have enough cooked food to feed everybody for over a year! There is no more space for your food! Half of it is rotting at your feet! STOP IT! STOP IT NOW!”
Meph grumbled and continued to cook. Whats the point of being boss when nobody listens?

Screw this, let him cry in his rotten masterpieces. I am going to dig a tunnel and chop down some trees.

So many Bronze Statues… I don’t feel safe.

Goat has given birth to Quintuplets. Ononem has  given birth to Triplets. Instant Army! Good thing Meph made so much food…

Chanobi Abaebabald, a child, has been put to work, making an artefact bandana! Well, seeing you made it, I will wear it into glorious battle. Thinking of battle, perhaps I should build a tomb.

The Bronze Statues continue to hunt the depths of the caverns, pulling trolls and cave bears limb from limb.

13th Slate, Mid-Spring, 103

21 new refuges turned up, swelling our numbers to 71 and there are now 16 tiny child bolds wandering the hole. A number of them have taken  up hunting the wilds, I fully expect them to not reach adulthood. Now that I check, it seems two children have already been eaten by a bobcat.

The bobcats have found a new food source, us. A migrant bone carver was chased into the tunnel to the cavern and has been eaten.  It is time to end this menace, arm the warbard, we hunt bobcats today! The battle is short and bloody, but two new bobcat pelts are added to the stash.

16th Felsite, Late-Spring, 103

Another of the hunting children died today, and an Engraver has gone missing. I think the surface Bronze Statue has gone back to its murderous ways.

But traders have brought more shinies! Stupid fools will accept some of the crap the Meph makes in the clay ovens as trade. The kobold traders have brought Ogres!

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Now a kidnapper has stolen a child. At the rate the children are dying I may be lynched soon. They are now not allowed outside.

Hematite, Early-Summer, 103

Success! We have captured Onentiantanem the Bronze Statue, murderer of many brave bolds and stupid children.

The traders have gone home with many of our sling bullets. The river has stopped flowing, it seems that the previous bossbold managed to dam it with hard stone. Trying to channel around it to get the water flowing again has flooded a lower tunnel, but hopefully it won’t breach the main warrens.

Work progress on the watch towers and the great walls. I have plans to create a maze of doom to lure in invaders and slice them up with traps. It is an ambitious project, most likely doomed to failure… but it must be done.

The channel has been dug, water flows again and the children can drink from the well. Work is going too slowly and so many bolds are being lazy. Production must be increased. If anybody cant find a job by the end of the week, then the will be conscripted to suicide squads!

Malachite, Mid-Summer, 103

11 more wandering kobolds have wandered into the warrens this month. So many mouths to feed, so many idle hands. I am struggling to find places to put them all. We have so few weapons and armour, I have ordered more made but the bolds do not follow instructions well.

One of the many bolds is slowly going mad. He has claimed a tanners shop and is screaming for gems, but we have none to give him.

A mystery has been solved, the case of Deep Blue, the ghostly dirt digger. While trying to retrieve a gem, a floor section was built to access a gem ramp, at the base of which was found the mouldy bones of Deep Blue. Apparently he had channelled into solid rock, destroying all the ramps around him and leaving him trapped at the bottom of a pit where he starved to death.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Galena, Late-Summer, 103

Mechants have arrived, and hot on their tails are no less than two sieging forces. Hivemen from the depths, and a band of marauding orcs looking to capture slaves. The overly ambitious defences are not finished, our troops are not trained, WE ARE DOOMED! Quick, seal of the tunnels and pray we haven’t left an opening. Let the humans and the wittle gnomes take out the orcs. Slingers to the roof! Every bold who can hold a sling, get one…

The front door is sealed, but the orcs immediately bypass it and make for the newly built outer wall. O NO, the builders have left an opening into the warrens. I take charge with my squad and rush to delay the orcs while the builder scramble to shore up the defence. It is unlikely I will live to see tomorrow. Goat takes the lead and rushes the orcs, he takes on the lead orc with a bold challenge. He darts in to stab the orc shaman in the leg, but fumbles his bloodsteel dagger. Looking up at the massive orc he mutters “crap” before the orcs chops of his right arm and smacks him in the head with its axe. Seeing my comrade go down I charged the orc from behind using my mithril machete to cut of both his feet. Goat stumbles up and limps back to the warrens, while I retreat to the top of the wall to wait the rest of the orc horde.

The orcs gain the wall, the stoopid builders have still not arrived. Facing them atop the wall, my squad and I valiantly fight.  The first orc charges, but Scribi ducks low and the orc trips, falling off the wall. The next two barrel past, I duck and chop of a foot of the first before leaving him to Onemon behind me. Ducking a mighty blow from the next orc I give him a nudge and he falls off too. The three of us then proceed to dismember the last orc.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The next wave hits, Scribi gets thrown off the wall. Ononem gets his scull broken and numerous new recruits arrive in force to help push the orcs of the wall. The silly builders are taking their damn time. Another pair of orcs are taken down, but of my squad I am the only one atop the wall still capable of fighting. Scribi continues the fight on the ground, killing another orc that is thrown off by the swarming mass of bolds. He gets cut up, but does a good job of cutting the throats of the footless and handless orc that I knock off.

With the assistance of the human caravan gaurds the orc raiding party are killed.

However, the hivemen continue to wind their way up from the caverns, killing all that get in their path. I order the drawbridge lowered for a moment in an effort to recover the wounded and to get the wall sealed off. It’s a race to get it done reseal the warrens before the much larger hiveguard force arrives.

Limestone, Early-Autumn, 103

Apparently the hiveguard can jump or fly. The pair of watchtowers are quickly swarmed by the hive and the defenders butchered. 7 slingers are pulled from their posts and ripped limb from limb.

A bandit thief infiltrated the fortress in the chaos, cutting up a fisherbold in the tunnels and leaving him for dead.  I lead my squad on a chase through the tunnels, catching the thief and separate his head from its body.

The jumping or flying hiveguards seem to have been dealt with, the remaining 45 or so now mill about outside and are being used for target practice. With 30 idle hands, its time to recruit more slingers to replace the loses.

A month of tossing stones to no effect, a new plan is required. Many cages are set up by the trade depot, and the ogres and war bands situated in a place to ambush small parties of hiveguards. Tentavily we lower the drawbridge for a moment to try and draw them in…

The bridge falls and the hive rushes us. Many are caught in the traps, but still more make it thorugh. The Ogres see an enmy and rush to defend the entrance and its carnage. Bits of bolds and hiveguard are thrown everywhere. Pure chaos!

The Hiveguard eventually decide they have had enough and flee, leaving 15 dead behind. At least a dozen bolds are killed, many many more are wounded. I personally accounted for 3 or the orcs, 5 of the hive. Goat lost a forearm.

Many bolds are upset at the butchers bill.

Timber, Late-Autumn, 103

The Hiveguard in the deathpit has been used as target practice for over a month. Seemingly it heals quicker than it can be wounded by clay balls. I now doubt the effectiveness of these weapons.

The Orcs have returned and in far greater number. The likelihood of the clan surviving is doubtful. Traders have also arrived, but only half of them managed to trickle in before the drawbridge had to be shut. The Orcs have brought flying war bats, I rally the troops but what can we do against such a powerful foe.

Me and Scribi go and stand by the door and await our fate, we need to kill as many as we can before we seal the gates. The traders will have to run for it, we can not protect them. Thankfully I have my machete, which has claimed many scalps now. I am the greatest kobold warrior of the clan, I will stand on the threshold till I die! The orc cutter come in and I cut them down, with Scribi protecting my back.  Thankfully most of the orcs don’t charge the gates, instead setting up a camp outside our walls.
Winter, 103

Feeling the need to break the siege I take the army onto the field and attack. With the slingers providing ranged support me an’ Scribs go in and start knifing them in their sleep.  The battle is long and brutal, but we are victorious. However several  slingers were killed and we will need to reform the squads or ranged support. The battle has highlighted the numerous weaknesses in our defences. Our ranged support can barely inflict a wound, it falls to myself and Scribs to dispatch most of the enemy with support from the small army of misbehaving ogres. Our outer perimeter is still not complete, I was too ambitious and now we have a half-finished and useless defensive wall.

Another bold went stark raving mad because he couldn’t find what he wanted to sort out his mood.

Shim Hineobeba has been found dead, completely drained of blood. So it seems we also have a vampire bold in the fort. Somewhere…

The drow traders have arrived, but I find myself too tired to deal with him. My year is at an end, I have done little of note, merely fought what has felt like an endless battle. So many dead…

Kobolds are somewhat difficult.  I dont know if the thief tunnel is bugged or not, but when I tried it the building exploded.

This game is something of a seigefest. I also found it surprising that slings and clay stones really suck... and barely armoured welded mithril machette weilding kobolds chop up orcs like confetti.

Didn't have much time to write up the year, nor make it pretty... but its done now.

In my experience, slings are generally terrible.  I'm going to transition the ranged troops over to using ironbone bolas if I can manage it.

Bloody year for the little tribe! You did a good job surviving the onslaught!  The vampire seems like a big issue, a bunch of kobolds worship the goddess that makes vampires. Has a kobold vampire fort been done? Sinister twist on cutebolds...

The slings are probably good for training ammo since you can mass produce it like no other, but yeah ironbone would be nice.

There were so many bolds dying, it was all I could do to keep tabs on the named bolds.

They are resistant to tantrums, because most of them were miserable for a long time.

I have never really dealt with vampires much, usually when I find them they go out in a bloody blaze of glory. If this fort survives another couple of years I will be surprised. I had planned on making the surface one big trap corridor, but had to spend most of my time hiding from the endless sieges.

Sorry about your limbs Pan :)
