Making An adventure mode guide! :D
« on: April 16, 2013, 02:17:27 pm »

Hey guys! I'm currently compiling an adventure mode guide! Yes, I know there's a wiki, but wouldn't it be nice just to open up a notepad document and look something up? I wont exactly go into great detail for monsters and such, just a description, tactics, and so forth. The only thing i wont include is proper character builds, as that does not rely on fact, but opinion and respective skill level. Here's what i have thus far, tell me what you think!

I don't think having the key commands in the guide going to be helpful when you could just redirect the player to the ingame help guide.

True, i thought of that. But sometimes it says r = remove. Umwhat? Remove what? I'm trying to go into more detail so they don't have to try numerous button combinations, and it wont only be controls, it will have a symbol key and monster lexicon as well.

Sometimes? are you playing ascii or some tileset or truetypes because usually Truetype or Tileset might break some text on the screen. The Manual for adventure mode even shows off what symbols go for what item.

I just checked my copies of df 34.11 to see a difference in guides and I seen both guides explaining what r does.
So I take it you might be referencing some older copy. eh kinda feel like this is just reduntant outside of pasting the 'adventure mode little question' thread answers onto a .txt for yourself.
though now I want to know this one instance where DF just straight up said R = remove.

Hm. Right you are! I typically look at the keybindings for the controls, and it just says Adventurer Inv. Remove. That's it. :| And I finally found the symbol list (noob fail ftw) and while some of it's extensive, it can be a bit skimpy. Partly the main thing was to go into greater detail explaining *exactly* what you do with the controls, such as it's a little unclear on how to refill your waterskin. Also, it may not be the same for you, but using escape to look at the symbols can break the flow. Also, I wanted to do armor, so that way you know if your honorable chitin 'do rag is more protective than the codpiece of justice.
