Any way to spot mummies?
« on: April 16, 2013, 01:10:18 pm »

So i was in a tomb/dungeon, and like a complete idiot, forgot to take an intense search of a room and had both my legs ripped off, I laughed my rear end off! But anyhow, me hobbling around on crutches enter the next level of the building, only to be cursed by an invisible mummy that popped out of nowhere, and tore me to shreds while my undead companions feasted. >_< I think it's awesome that they surprise you, but is there any way to at least see their location?

I think the best way to see the location of the mummy is that it will be in a coffin before you disturb its rest. i think if you avoid walking right next to the coffin you should be fine.

Hm. I probably wasn't careful enough. Thanks for the warning. By the way, how close is too close? And Is it just me, or are the little buggers impossible to kill? (nearly)

They're pretty damn close to untouchable if they bother to curse you, yeah.

coming within 3 tiles of the mummy's tomb on the same z-level should result in their being raised. Also, picking up items from their tomb will also cause them to wake up and beat you to death.

lol ok, thanks alot. This will do very well for my guide. Also, say you're in the tomb but on a different Z level, will he still come after you?

tombs are very fun places, the treasure room is almost always in a branching path away from the mummy's room. And since taking any item awakens them, you will very likely be intercepted while trying to run out after taking even 1 item.

There are also hallways full of corpses that you must go through to get to the treasure, apparently the mummy is supposed to walk through these to get to you, which results in alot of fun when you get cursed and cornered.

the best way to raid a tomb is to become a vampire or necromancer, trying to rush the treasure room most likely gets you intercepted while escaping. And going for the mummy's room in advance is suicide since theres a hundred corpses in their personal room.

currently there is a cheap bug you can exploit. An awakened mummy who hasnt get gotten to you will become bugged and become an invisible wall if you save and reload the game. They wont be able to curse you anymore or attack you, but you must crawl to move into the tile they are bugged on.

1. Never loot in a tomb.

2. If you activate any trap, run.

3. If you are in a room full of corpses/skeletons and there's a lone coffin in the room with a slab, never approach the coffin. Being adjacent to the coffin means you're dead.

If you fail to do any of these, the tomb dweller will awaken to intercept the threat. Which is you, of course.

I can confirm that activating their traps won't wake them up. However, be sure to check whether you're still able to run afterwards. I have lost a leg a couple times tomb robbing. You can't escape the mummy crawling if you still attempt to make off with their stuff.

1. Never loot in a tomb.
why enter the tomb in the first place if you're not gonna loot?

on another note, the wiki says they also awaken if you bash down their door. Has anyone tried getting a group of companions and waiting near the door after bashing it down? the undead apparently do not follow the mummy on their own so if you bash down the door and wait, the mummy will come alone to invite you in, and then you can ambush him with a 5-man squad (and hopefully he cant tell who bashed down the door).

Because you want to ambush the sleeping inhabitant first?

Anyway, you should really be sure of what you want to loot in a tomb, because once you pick up any item that belongs to the tomb there, the mummy's got your guts.

Not sure if bashing down the door will work to wake them up, but you could definitely scope out the location of the sarcophagus, find an item near enough to the entrance that you and your companions can make it back outside before the mummy paths to you, and nab it and make a run for the door where you can set up your ambush before they arrive. It's still highly risky, even if your adventurer is in stealth as there's always the chance of being cursed and your companions could fail miserably.

i mentioned in my first post that this doesnt really work, because their room is completely full of corpses. If you loot one of the corpses then they awaken since the corpse is an item that belongs in the tomb. If you move too close, they awaken automatically. Either way it usually results in the resurrection of the entire room, zombies grabbing and ripping off your clothes and pushing you against a wall before finally... yea you know what happens.

Oh but it does give you an additional turn if you don't loot anything yet and approach the coffin deliberately. Enough turns for a Legendary+5 to cut the head off the mummy, thus preventing it from cursing you.

Of course, you would have to do this while in ambush mode with a high level of skills and absolutely waste no turns killing the zombies in the room. Oh, and this thing is pretty much stupid to do if you're not really skilled/ready to deal with the consequences.

The zombies for a Legendary+5 are just a nice touch, and they tend to be skeletons anyway.

mummy assassination eh, sounds like a fun way to kill a ruler who probly died in the first place from being murdered. Very risky though as every undead beside you has a chance to detect you, and if you get revealed by even 1, then its curse time. Im not sure if sneaking prevents the curse, never tried it against a mummy before i became immune to undead, are you sure it doesnt just curse you anyway since your the closest disturber to it?
