I saw a photograph of Tamerlan's corpse. He was in an awfully bad way - burns all over his face. He had a huge wound in his body from the doctor's efforts to save him, I've forgotten what the procedure is called.

FYI, they found him again, just minutes after the lockdown was lifted. Apparently they used thermal imaging? (Waiting on confirmation, I still don't entirely trust the media to get it right yet.) He's cornered in/under a boat in a back yard right now.

Still, don't they have helicopters or something to track the car? I've never heard of someone getting into a firefight with significant police forces and then manage to escape...

He abandoned the car and ran off on foot. Helicopters were unavailable at first, due to the weather. (Fog, I believe.)

Yes, they think he is on a boat. Right now they see no movement.

I thought the younger one was killed.
Most of the stuff I'm reading says the older died.

Maybe he did a 'Go!, I'll distract them with the bombs!' ploy.  Which may explain how the younger slipped away.

Why don't they ever try for the sewers? Seriously, slip down a manhole, stay holed up for a day or so, come out when stuff has calmed down a little.

Sewers can be searched pretty easily without annoying anybody, they'd probably find them pretty fast.

But they're so big, and I don't think that the police spend much time down there. I imagine they'd be a nightmare for someone who is inexperienced.

Stand at every exit. Win.
Once you are in the sewers, you have backed yourself into a very bad corner...

Pretty sure any city with sewers large enough to hide in have a specialized unit for dealing with them.

Yeah, but a nightmare is much more barable if you have a reason such as hiding from the cops instead of it just being your job.

They certainly are big but a lot of them are untraversable the vast majority of the time. I know that movies, TV, and videogames gives you the idea that sewers are something you can just walk through, but not really.

Well they would be even worse if they don't know you are there. At least if they know you are there they will do what they can to make sure you don't drown...

I spent my entire summer last year in the sewers in my town of 6000, if the sewers for a town for 6000 are big enough for a person, the ones in a town for 30,000 are going to be too.

Not really a truth.

For example, the sewers to handle a suburb of 50000 odd run past our house. Twin pipes of about 80cm in diameter. No vast underground tunnel that you could walk through.
