No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

False-flag crap aside, it doesn't really matter, because this almost certainly will result in further restriction of civil liberties, and not in the ways that it should.

There is the possibility that it was a false flag operation. I don't see it being huge, but I like to remember the CIAs plan to drum up public support for an invasion of Cuba during the 60s...
I am not sure that not being a bit paranoid about the government is really a wise idea.

I feel a little sad that this is no doubt going to turn into a political campaign somehow.
Somebody will say this could have been avoided if [PEOPLE] were not allowed in, and somebody else will say that if everybody had guns this wouldn't have happened, and somebody else will go on some other rant...

Every time something bad happens it is just a chance to promote your politics.

Alex Jones is claiming without basis that it's a false flag operation too

Alex Jones says everything is a false flag operation. He'd say the whole country is a false flag operation if he could.

It's been a long ass day. Not going into details.

My gut reaction? Domestic, and fairly unskilled. However, they were going for a mass casualty event. Bombs themselves were low-power, non-incendiary. They were, however, apparently doped with ball bearings. Whoever did this wanted to kill and maim a lot of people, not blow up buildings. 50+% failure rate on the devices speaks to a pretty low level of skill.

Not sure if there's a connection to recent targetings of law enforcement and judiciary out west. Aryan Brotherhood's implicated in those. I could see a connection to the Boston Marathon if for no other reason than that the winners of those things are virtually always Ethiopian, Kenyan, etc.

But there's certainly a host of other potential culprits. Current casualty count is 3 dead, ~141 injured.

That's about what I figured. Truth be told, those bombs kind of sucked. The flash was huge and engulfed a crowd of people, but only managed to kill three.

As for culprits, I suppose the list of potentials would be:

-Some Crazy Lone Wolf (Can't ever rule that one out.)

-Patriot or Militia Movement (Given the day and location, it would be appropriate for them.)

-al-Qaeda or other Islamist equivalent (The day once again, plus they're openly hostile to America. On the other hand, this wasn't a suicide bombing so it doesn't fit their style.)

-Domestic crime organization, racially based or otherwise (I'd say this one is unlikely, since most groups like that don't want to do anything that would bring the government down on them. But who knows?)

-IRA remnant or American splinter (This one I am only including because my mother is utterly insistent that it is the case, and the related Supreme Court ruling on the very same day. There is also the factor of Boston's Irish population. That said, I consider this one very unlikely but am including it for completion's sake.)

That's all I've got. If I had to absolutely guess, I'd go with a lone wolf. That this doesn't send any clear message immediately and was done so poorly means that any kind of trained organization is unlikely.

It's probably worth noting that April 15th is both Tax Day and (more locally to Massachusetts) Patriot's Day. The date could be a symbolic gesture, assuming that (as is likely) that it's domestic, given that the former is one of the most prominent institutions of government (or more precisely, of the gripes certain types have with government) and the latter a callback to the "good old days" and "Founding Fathers" bullshit. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.

I'm just confused why they chose the marathon, four hours into the race. It would have been much more terrifying if it hit earlier. But that's just me.
My personal theory is that it was mostly someone who hated Boston in particular, and probably an individual. If they were not alone, and their hate was more wide spread, then their attacks would be too.
But I don't know. I've lived on the west coast my entire life.

Could have been faulty timers. Construction of these things was pretty crude.
Also, an individual seems unlikely to me. Too many devices for one person.

Four hours earlier most cameras were at the start of the race, not near the end. Explosions are big, loud, extravagant. Hard for an amateur to make work well, but they still tried.
Either they were scared shirtless of getting caught thus opted for a very remote method, making me wonder how they went through with it at all, or they wanted publicity.
