I could join if you need some extra bodies to throw around. I've been mulling over buying this game, but I'd be horribly ineffective until I learned the ropes.

Hahaha, worry not, it's pretty easy to be horribly ineffective even after you learn the ropes :P

I think the biggest tip to be had is simply to not blow up all the enemy command stations/warp gates. Can wreck a lot more of the latter, but the former usually needs to be left alone unless you're actively intending to take the system (and you only really want to take really good systems, not just every penny-ante corner hooker system. System/target evaluation gets important!). But other than that, it's mostly just figuring out the controls and poking things. To a large extent, the game's not actually as daunting as it can first appear. "What do" is usually pretty obvious (there's an objectives list to help with that!), it's just a matter of prioritizing and figuring out how to execute said "what do"s. And sometimes just the latter, heh.

I just got the game very recently, and it was easy for me to learn. Don't worry too much.

Uh, where did you get the impression that he couldn't or wouldn't buy the expansions?

I'm buying them all, so that's taken care of.

Edit: installed and ready to go. When do we start?

I will be hosting/available to play a round in about 10 hours from this post. I've got all expansions and will be using a decent gaming computer on a great internet connection (120 Mb/s, wired) so it should go pretty smoothly ^^

We sort of play on our whims, so that's kind of hard to say.

Aklyon usually hosts it around or after 16:00 - 20:00 GMT, though he has hosted it earlier than that before. He has no exact days for when he's hosted as far as I can tell. As for any others, I don't know anything at all about when they host.

That's right about when I wake up. I'm up for playing.

O, I haven't tested whether I can host without hamachi. I don't live there so I can't open any ports. If someone wants to join, they might want to install Hamachi :)

Well, I'm at work right now so I'm not able to test it :P Though I think it'll have to go over hamachi due to the fact that the owners have the same provider.

Also, what's wrong with Hamachi? Apart from my computer sometimes using Hamachi instead of Wifi, I haven't had any trouble with it :)

Ehn, mostly that it's a third party program at all. Having to run something extra in the background means less resources for the game :( Hamachi does eat up a bit of ram. Also kinda' annoying to have to bugger with services and whatnot to turn it off/on. Which... some people might not mind just having it on in the background while they're not using it, but personally, I get kinda' jittery when there's miscellaneous services eating up my system resources for no reason.

That, and some people just have problems with it, from what I understand. Stuff like that happens, no two computers the same, etc., so forth, so on. It's not quite that it's bad, per se, just that being able to function without it is usually better.

I'm up for it.
