There are three things I know about dwarves:
1. They've got beards. Even the women.
2. They're short. Especially the women.
3. They're Scottish.

Hi!

Water is not stored in stockpiles. It is stored in ponds and wells (such wells are then actually just ponds with a topping). It does have the advantage that you simply need a hole in the ground to store 7 units of water (not using up your resources for barrels).

I do not think this is likely to change any time soon. Dwarven society is depicted as alcohol dependant, so alcohol has a much greater value in comparison.

Anyhow, just [d]esignate -> c[h]annel a single square. When it is dug, desgnate an activity zone. Make it a pond/pit and go into its [p]it/pond options and make it a pond. Make sure it is active, otherwise it will not be filled.

I hope this answers your question?

I did actually mean ice, but it's referred to ingame as "Water" when mined if I have my facts straight.

Now that I have a stirrer up and running I'd like to know how to empty the bucket of stagnant water so it can be refilled with fresh (or at least stirred) water.

Designate a pond and have them dump the bucket into it?

I have Water in my food stockpile. Not water as in, from a screw pump but water as in an item named Water (a stack of four Water, to be exact).

I have no idea how it got there. I'm in a Scorching biome, so it did not come from melting ice. I assume that my dwarves are storing it there for later.

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.
