using fire as a weapon
« on: April 12, 2013, 08:08:34 pm »

  I'm trying to kill these frost giants (masterwork), not sure if they are resistant to heat damage, but is it possible to kill anything (not just frost giants) with fire by setting fire to the plants they are standing on top of? Not seeing anything, but I know I've melted my fat from standing near it for a while.

The trick is getting them to stand on top of fire. Fire isn't really effective as an offense. Now, you could break their legs or something, and then set them on fire while they're on the ground.

Also, anything made of fire-safe material shouldn't burn(dragon skin for instance.)

If you're intending to start the fires by making a campfire keep in mind you can't do that in combat (at least not in vanilla, it might have been changed in your mod).

I've stood next to campfires for a long time before and not been burned (got stuck between one and a tree in the caverns), but whenever I ignite a plant I start burning. I think campfires aren't actually "fires" as far as the game is concerned.

It should be possible. If the rate corpses burn is any indication, it could take a while though.

You're going to want to set it up so that they're completely surrounded by fire. I don't think enemies are smart enough to run through fire to escape fire. Igniting a bush while they're standing on it should do the trick.

Fire is also a good way to put down evil biome zombies for good, if you can get the parts to burn before they raise again (just keep tossing those things at a burning tree until they're all gone.)

I wasn't talking about campfires, I was talking about burning the plants beneath/near them. I figured out how to weaponize it, simply burn the plant they are standing on top of, and they are slowly reduced to a pile of grease. It might just be the corpse melting, but hey it works ok. Either way, the creature is completely immobilized unless you attack it and it dodges away. To move in the smoke/fire you have to do alt.

burning creatures to death works on anything that is not heat-resistant. you just have to lure them into a box of 3x3 around a plant of some kind and light the plant. it takes a while for you to actually heat up so just move out of the fire square while they burn.

source: experience from burning my fat adventurer 1 body part at a time to make her relatively fire-proof and also to increase speed (fat weighs you down). Inadvertently burnt my elven companions who followed me around, seems they catch fire faster than humans.

to really use fire you need a way to throw it, a hotter fire helps.
try throwing burning cloth or leather items, to kill some one of a civ you dont want to anger.

Setting fire to a shrub that someone is standing on top of has been hugely effective for me, and it's how I generally handle bogeymen.

Holy carp, have you always been able to do this? I've always had failure trying to set folks on fire in earlier versions and never bothered trying again until this thread.

Clipping them in the legs with an axe and setting them ablaze works wonders.

Would using a coal boulder/ item from an abandoned fortress be something feasible as an offensive tactic?
