NHL Hockey
« on: April 12, 2013, 06:02:04 am »

It's getting close to the playoffs.

I'm in the rare position of wondering if the Red Wings will make the playoffs. My guess is yes, though perhaps it will be a bit closer than necessary. I think it depends heavily on whether their defense can play other team's well. Keep an eye on the guy you are covering, defensemen, and counter their movements.

The Red Wings not making the playoff is like the Leafs winning the cup. It won't happen. I hope though that Buffalo find a way to the playoff, then all the northeast division will be there.

And finally... GO! HABS GO!

The last regular season Wings games are very well priced, they have a 50ish$ for two tickets sale (I think it's called the family plan and is for a father son type deal)and I have a feeling they will all be good games to watch if you are a Detroit fan.

Jimmy Howard is good goalie. Pavel Datsyuk the best player in the NHL. Lots of talent to be found on the Wings, even if some of it is young. Zetterberg can attract players while Datsyuk gets open.

I'm honestly surprised the Wings are at such a precarious position; with this team they could do well in the playoffs. I was hoping Brunner would get the Gordie Howe tonight, but he should talk to Abdelkader and Tootoo about the third component first to make sure he gets the team fired up, and to make sure it's the right opponent.

EDIT:

Yea, go team! They sure are the more proficient at the sport than all the other teams!

They'll make it further than the Wild, who crawled into the playoffs only to face the buzz-saw that is Chicago.  Still, reaching the playoffs for the first time in 5 years is nice.

Go Wild, I suppose. Chicago is good and all, but that would be a sweet upset.

Wings just won in overtime 5-4, and the series is tied 1-1.

EDIT: Watching the next game on May 4th now. I figured I probably shouldn't double post just because of it.

EDIT2: Expect a double post next game if no one posts between.

Also, I was disappoint to see the major 5 minute and misconduct. I think that hit was shoulder to shoulder first, with enough momentum to carry through to his head once it was on the same plane as the shoulder.

I think a suspension would be the wrong call. Abdelkader didn't jump into the air, he made contact where he was supposed to and was gliding, and then combined upper body movement with his forward momentum to increase the force of the hit, which powered directly through and into the unfortunate's head.

It makes me wonder if a complete bubble helm is possible, attached to the spaulder or other torso equipment, that would function as a sort of rollcage for the head and it's accompanying padding.

EDIT3: Haha, the Tigers scored a 17-2 baseball game while Michigan was watching the Hockey game.

The next game should be a good game for the Wings. Having to travel back and forth to the West every season is almost over finally. That kind of travel must be brutal.

Minnesota was able to win Game 3 in 2-1 in OT over Chicago; a good goal by Zucker to win it.  Apparently Pittsburgh beat the Islanders in the Eastern conference today as well.

Speak for yourself, I was watching both. Until the Wings were down 3-0 and the Tigers were up Gazillion-0, at which point I was not going to watch the one and got bored with the other.
