Taking the strong, silent route, you wait for the smoke to clear. Before it can, the speaker addresses you again, "Oi! Ya want something or not? I got plenty of better things ta do!"

Nothing for it, then, but to talk back, "Uh, hey! Who are you, exactly?" The smoke has thinned enough for you to catch a glimpse of flowing, organic curves at around head height.

"Who am I!? Where've you been, sleeping under a rock in the subtermaterium? I'm only one a' Kad's finest minions! Isk, at yer service.", the being proclaims. The last of the smoke fades, revealing a biped perhaps eight inches tall hovering in front of you. It (He? She? Just plain it? You don't really care, at least for the moment.) is covered in a network of plates that seem to randomly flow between purple, black, and orange, completely free of sharp angles. Bright purple eyes glow from within a miniature helm crested with a black feather.

Agreed. Except it's only mental sarcasm, because then it's funny but we don't annoy him. Whatever he is, he might hurt Basin if we screw up. PROTECT DE BASIN.

After a moment of consideration, you ask for the most obvious of your needs, "I am a touch peckish, a spot to eat would be simply smashing." After all, what's a broken arm next to going a day or two without food?

Isk brightens considerably, both in appearance and demeanor, "Food? Oh yeah, baby, Isk can do food real good," he exclaims with a toothy smile. With a much smaller burst of smoke a black wafer appears in his(?) hands. It is roughly five inches square and two deep, run through with veins of purple. Some sort of lavender-colored goo oozes from within. You accept it hesitantly, smiling weakly. A bit of the... sauce? Yeah, call it that. Some of the sauce rolls down onto your left hand. Basin raises a tendril up, as if trying to reach it.

"Thanks, Isk. It looks absolutely scrumptious. Say, why are you here?" That's right, stall like there's no tomorrow, stall! You carefully observe the diminutive being, trying to figure out how it's alive, much less how it is independently mobile with what looks like the equivalent of a millstone worth of armor distributed around its body. Lacking the knowledge of any sort of potential technique to analyze the life or magic of something, the best you can do is stare hard. There's a slight tinge of familiarity about the little creature, but the same feeling comes from the few lingering traces of smoke that he arrived with.

Isk almost seems to read your thoughts, "Magic, or are ya daft?" Oh. Wait, you asked how he(?) got here. "What, ya didn't know that you called me? Mortal fools, playin' wiv things they don't understand..."
