I'm from Belgium. We have an habit of being used as a doormat by the German (Don't let that other Beglian lie to you: in 1914, the German invadedon the 4th of August and were in France by the end of August. and they were in France 3 weeks laters, not 3 months.

Still, it's arguable that by delaying the German by 3 weeks rather than let them pass, we caused the German to loose after a long, drawn-out, deadly war rather than nab a quick victory, paving the way for Hitler's rise, the genocide of the Jews, WWII, the October Revolution, international communism and the Cold War. Yeah Belgium!

That's why you just shouldn't let Belgium play with other countries. We mess stuff up when we try to act like grown-up. Just look at what we did with Congo when we wanted colonies likes the other countries? 6 millions dead, and the first ever market for severed hands.

Nah, just let us brew beer, make chocolate and fight over some obscure administrative problem no one understand whether outside or inside our borders.

Actually, all that happened during the Congo Free state, not Belgian Congo. Ie, a Belgian King, but neither the government nor the state were not involved. He got dethroned (as king of Congo) for that in 1908 and died a year later, and The Belgian Colonial rule was a significantly better. ((Also, 6 million is a bit to conservative. 8-15 is significantly more probable ))

Speaking of bureaucratic problems, Belgium is one of the founding members of the Benelux unions and such, the first predecessors of the Eu.

True enough, although the French Belgian school system is really shameful in presenting Leopold II as "The builder king" for all the monument and stuff he built, without saying where the money is coming from. I dunno if the Flemish school system is any better.

Who's to say that wouldn't have caused Nazi France/Britain/America/Russia? That'll do Belgium. That'll do.

The origin of the money is mentioned as being the rubber trade, and humanitarian disaster of the rubber exploitation was talked about a bit.

Depends from School to school though, I suppose.

They would have joined later with Francebros. Germany wanted colonies, Britain & France wanted to keep colonies. Belgium was fire alarm that Europe was about to burn ;[

Britain had also sort of agreed it would support the french/russian alliance against the germans/austrians/italians-who-wound-up-joining-the-allies. It was sort of implied Britain would join the war, though they didn't want to form an alliance because that might drag them into a different conflict they didn't have interest in, and also because they expected they might fight the french over colonial interests at some point.
