Don't forget there's also a covenant that automatically summons someone to help whenever you get invaded.

And, like I said, even with thousands of people online (there were summon signs literally everywhere) I only had two random invasions. I'd imagine that number would drop even more when the game is actually released since you'd have a lot more players who are unfamiliar with the game, and you wouldn't have access to invasion items right off the back.

It still seems like an odd change and I'm not exactly sure how I feel about it. I wouldn't mind there being a covenant or item of some kind that allows you to opt out of invasions or at least make them less frequent. Something like the way of white in dark souls.

I find the game challenging enough that one more, random impediment is not something I wanted out of a sequel. Like I said, if I can do offline, I'll be just as happy, and save online for a second playthrough. But to me, playing Dark Souls is like sipping a fine wine over hours and hours and hours. What ruins that experience for me is once every couple hours someone walks in through a side door and slaps the goblet out of my hand, and possibly tea bags it.

I can't wait for the new invasion system not being punished for being dead was the most annoying thing about Dark Souls.

I'm guessing there is still a penalty for being Hollow, probably a pretty significant one. Holding Humanity is basically your motivation to not die. All this is changing (so far) is not removing Hollows from the flow of MP.

The penalty for being hollow is having your maximum cut. The more you die without humanity, the more you hollow, the smaller fraction you retain.

So being that you are essentially always Cursed, I can only imagine what the actual Curse system does now.

So there's actually a compounding penalty for being Hollow. Yes, that's just what I want in a PvP game. Compounding interest you have to work off for dying a lot.

Well, once you've hollowed enough the odds of being put in PvP are exceedingly low. So dying more or less knocks you out of multiplayer. Of course, all of that is mute if you have humanity in reserve.

So is it like, your maximum humanity decreases while Hollow....and increases back over time when not? Because I tend to sit on all my Humanity until I'm ready to use it. I can live with that, I suppose.

Humanity looks like it's going to be a lot more rare. There is no longer "soft humanity". Instead you get human effigies which you can use to restore humanity. I didn't get an effigy for killing someone as an invader, but I did get one for killing the bosses and for killing some tough black phantom enemies.

Thank you for this analogy, this is pretty much how I feel. I don't want it to be possible for people to randomly come into my game. If there were a covenant or equipment or something that you could use to just prevent dickwadsinvaders from appearing altogether then it would be nice. I mean, you could make it so it removes -all- red phantoms, which means no loot from NPC phantoms.

I hope they couple this with more frequent/abundant humanity (doesnt have to be soft), otherwise it will be hell.

It's supposed to be hell. Nobody ever played a Souls game because they didn't appreciate challenge.

To me, the challenge the game presents is different than the challenge posed by people randomly entering your world to kill you. One is a challenge you study, dissect, practice and eventually beat. The other is a rigged game where you're most likely to be invaded by someone who is specifically geared for it. The PvP and PvE elements of Dark Souls did not go hand-in-hand, until now.
