The online is supposedly amazingly better, from what I've heard from beta players.

Wanna do some co-op? Summoning failed. Play with a friend? Summoning failed.

Alternatively, the summoning sign sits there all the damn time, except when you actually decide to walk towards it, at which point it disappears the moment come close to it. Most. Infuriating. Thing. In the world.

Also, getting invaded just as you're about to use the bonfire after getting past Those Archers.

I never did have any problem with the double archers. It isn't difficult. Sprint up, close distance, riposte left archer, kick right archer.

I never even bothered with the left archer, I just ran up to the right one while two-handing the heaviest greatshield I could manage and he eventually fell off.

You say that now, but you're practiced and experienced with the game. Mastering ripostes is something many people haven't bothered to do by the time they reach Anor Londo on the first playthrough, and the timing on that section takes a bit of practice to get right for most.

My preferred way to take them down is with their own greatbow, but aura decoy is fun too.

I can't remember what happened the first time I went through there. Anor Londo was fairly difficult, but that section just never stood out to me. I was surprised when I got online and discovered that it was considered one of the DarkSouls.gif moments.

Huh, I never even bothered with ripostes either.

Started a new character recently so I could try co-op witha  friend who got the game, and I was riposting the easy enemies in undead burg for practice, but those are the only guys I've tried riposting on. My first playthrough(s) I never bothered with shields and only went two-handed because I thought shields would be useless against most enemies. I didn't understand the shield block mechanic until late through my second playthrough (first playthrough ended halfway through when PS3 died) but by that time I had gotten pretty good at simply dodging most attacks. I initially thought that large enemies would simply destroy you through your shield.

I can't remember what I did for the archer guys my first time around... maybe I used spear and shield so I didn't fall off? That's what I did with the chapel rafters at least.

Yo guys you might want to discuss the first Dark Souls in its thread so people can continue moaning about their predictions here.

A permadeath mode might be more fun, as hits are inevitable. In either case, though, I see huge technical issues and griefing potential. Such a mode would probably need to be offline-only.

Death sets you back enough hours because of lost souls anyway. No need to erase all the progress.

Hours seems like a bit of an overstatement...

It depends on how slowly you move through areas or how methodical you are with taking out enemies. Once you have died a few times and know where the enemies are you can... usually get through it much quicker than before.

EDIT: oh, the losing souls bit may set you back a long while depending on how often you spend them or if you hoard them )which you shouldn't be doing, seriously)

It hurts in the beginning when trash only brings you so much XP. If you're the kind of person that farms for a while to bulk up some stats before pressing on, a death can set you back quite a bit.

Later on when you can farm a handful of guys with an easy pattern, not so much.
