I would vote for taking at least one of the salvage jobs, and bribing the engineer(s) into taking a look at our own ship's engines on the way to the broken down ship(s).

You tell the man waiting to receive your orders that it may take a bit as you turn to Cain and ask him to give you a full report on the ships situation, armaments, etc. Giving you a slight nod he points towards a nearby terminal, and you follow him over to it, with a rapid series of taps he puts in the terminals code and the holodisplay appears in front of the two of you. Clearing his throat he speaks up,

"The ship itself is in fairly good condition considering the fact we drove it through an asteroid belt with no nav charts of the area, but its still in bad shape. Currently we don't have any ship-based form of salvage gear since we tore all that out so we could install the Ancient's Railgun in a dorsal position on the ship. Besides that our only other two weapons are two outdated Lynx Autocannon PD turrets for fighters, ordnance and the like. Right now we've managed to hide the railgun by covering it up with plates in a pattern that it looks like a simple part of the hull, since the bottom of the ship is undamaged near the railgun we don't need to worry about them finding out we have it, but in a battle we'll need to release the clamps holding that shell in place to fire the gun.

In that case I doubt we'll be able to get the plates back on if we get in a serious battle so we'll need to choose our encounters carefully. Besides that we have a single fighter bay, and two storage bays on the ship, we can fit around two smaller vessels in the fighter bay and a moderate amount of salvage in the storage bays themselves so we'll be fine for the time being. As for the engines they'll work at about half capacity, that is more then enough to do pretty much anything but escape another ship or the equivalent.

As for equipment we have some let me pull that up, anything else you want to know?"

My revision to the shopping list:

We currently have $1,793

1 Exo-suit:
$1,793 - $120 = $1,673
3 Shotguns:
$1,673 - $120 = $1,553
2 Portable Hullcutters:
$1,553 - $160 = $1,393
2 Reinforced Salvage Suits:
$1,393 - $186 = $1,227
Which adds up to -$566.

Then Salvage a ship.
$1,227 + $700 = $1,927

Buy that stuff ^ and bribe the mechanics to repair our security drones en route to the first ship.

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

"An asteroid belt? Either you're lying or you're flying through a trid show. Asteroid belts are safer than orbit--less debris. How was your ship really damaged?"

That's an engineer, talking about how our ship got damaged. That said, you make a fantastic point.

You went through an asteroid belt with no nav charts which predict the path and allow you to plot safe paths through them, without them your ship got battered by the asteroids. Your ship has an actual view window to see out into the void but since you were going through an asteroid field you had to close the guards to the windows, thus limiting the pilots views to a dozen or so camera views. That combined with the fact your ship had damaged engines, and that you were trying to get to the station which is in the center of the asteroid belt it got damaged fairly badly.

Also Cain is not an engineer he's your pilot, Lilian is the engineer.

All the actions regarded your ship though, and it was mentioned earlier that Cain is part of your crew so there is no reason to be talking about another ship. I'm sorry if it wasn't clear enough, but I don't see how it wasn't :\

I'd point out the fact that you'd have to be TRYING to hit an asteroid, barring horrible luck, let alone be battered by them, even in "thick" parts of the asteroid belt...but I suspect that for the purposes of this game, reality doesn't work like that.

Reality is the same as real life for the most part but this asteroid belt is being used for mining purposes so thats gonna make things a lot more erratic then a normal asteroid field. All the fragments of cracked asteroids floating around, constant threat of asteroids partially shattering from mining explosions, etc.

EDIT: Plus the ship was partially damaged to start due to your choosing damaged status, and a bad roll later on caused the additional damage from the asteroids.

Well...I daresay that the miners would have to be TRYING to make it a worse minefield than orbit is going to be. There's already thousands of little bits of debris littering Earth's orbit, and we're barely in the space age.

Alright the current consensus is to buy everything Immaterial listed, and pay the engineers (no need to bribe them :P) to repair the security droids, so I'll wait a bit longer in case anyone wants to add something to that before writing up the new update.
