"Kiltra"

Now where have I heard that before? :P
Lol, I wish I hadn't named that like a year ago so I would be referencing that on purpose. ( Happy coincidence eitherway :P )
Haha, coincidences are the best. And you've used it before? Nice.

"What exactly are these skills you speak of Raz?"

You ask him inquisitively, shifting to the side as a pair of ragged looking miners rushes past you carrying a crate between them that seems to be labelled 'Explosives' which doesn't surprise you after what you've seen today. You watch them hurry off and round a corner before Raz finally sees fit to answer you question,

"I have a particularly good talent with making things disappear, some of that appears again later, and the rest ... well its never found again or unrecognizable when it is found. My years have been spent ensuring things are carried out in secrecy be it some item you wish obtained or some particular annoyance disposed of I shall do it, that is if you agree to this deal of course."

"Sounds good. I'd like to welcome you aboard for a evaluation period."

Start moving refugees on aboard, and prepare to leave.

Agree, plus that's about the LAST thing *I* want to see from this kind of game - author spending valuable development time on useless graphics.

Unofficial slogan of Bay 12 Games.

"Alright you're hired, for now, consider this an evaluation period. I'll get you your pay once we're on board the Lazarus but for now we need to start moving, I got a lot of preparations to make for the evacuation and such. Welcome aboard Raz."

With that you turn, and start walking down the hall, Raz quickly catches up to you with a smile on his face, he makes some quick apologies about having to go take care of somethings real quick, and heads off down a side passage. You look after him confused for a moment, but shrug it off, he hasn't been paid yet so you trust him to do as he said for now, and if not you can always fall back to plan B. With that thought you check your Kiltra in its holster, and continue on down the hallway.

About ten minutes later you bump into Raz at a junction-storage room combo, he has a pack over his shoulder and you notice what looks to be the faint outline of two guns beneath his newly donned black jacket. Nodding to you he speaks up,

"I got my thing, and took care of a few debts I had to pay, but now I'm ready to go ... Captain. Shall we be on our way?"

You give him a nod, and for a moment you see a flash of movement from behind a crate and notice something that looks extremely similar to someone's arm peaking out from behind an upturned crate. Deciding it'd be best not to ask you quickly make your way to your ship, as you arrive a group of refugees escorted by a squad of six armed guards is boarding your ship, noting their faces you ignore the rest and quickly make for the bridge. Once there you take a seat in the captain's chair, Raz having left you halfway here to go find an empty room to claim, and begin to survey the situation on board your ship.

Your deckhands bring you as best to a full report as they could get in the situation, the station is sending you 40 of its citizens, and a well-armed security detail of six apparently veteran soldiers. Along with them would come a few crates of supplies, mostly food and water for the citizens, but they were sending some medicine and armaments along as well with a great portion of both being meant for you as a bit of additional payment. You departure time is as of yet still unknown, however with every passing moment the Marauder's grow closer and the evacuation is furious.

Soon after that the deckhands bring reports from Granite and Lilian as well. Granite's report is more of a request of course, he tells you that the two guards he has for the ship's security are fairly green and requests your permission to arm them freely from the ship's armory as well as beginning a training regime for them, after that he reports that the station's people have confined themselves to the areas assigned on the lower deck of the ship so as to allow your crew free roam and less distractions. Lilian on the other hand reports that her and her team have got the hauler settled in in engineering, and are free for anything you might wanna throw their way though she does remind you that she'd enjoy some of the more expensive restaurants from the planet you are heading to.

With that you're left to decide with what to do till preparations are complete ...

Give Granite the go ahead on the green guards.
Have Lillian and her team try and improve our weapons. Except our pistol. No one can touch our baby.
Introduce ourselves to the refugees. Be funny and kind. If we have fabricators or something, make a few toys for the kids.
Begin charting a course to Polaris. Also, do some research on it.

Also, could we get a ship map?

I'll get to work on one, might not get it done within the next two updates though.

You sit back in you chair reading over some trivial reports on the ship's power grid as you think of your actions before departure, sighing you speak up,

"Cain chart a course for Polaris according to the station's fleets course as well, and after that I want you to chart out to alternative courses to Polaris easily accessible from the station's planned course in case of some trouble. As for the rest of you I want replies sent to both Granite and Lilian, Granite is to be told to go ahead and do as he wishes with the guards but be prepared for Lilian to claim some of the weapons from the armory for improvement.

Tell Lilian to setup that retooling kit in engineering and get to work, she can take any of the weapons she wants but she is to leave at least one of the shotguns to ensure we have at least some firepower in case of an attack from within the ship.

Finally call Raz and Granite to meet me at the airlock connected to the station in ten minutes, we are going to go down to the cargo bays to greet our guests and welcome them aboard."

Standing up as you set the holopad aside you put your Kiltra back in its holster and leave the bridge to the sound of Cain cursing at the deckhands behind you. The trip to the airlock is a short, uneventful one, and when you arrive you find Raz and Granite standing around in complete silence, Raz gives you a small smile when you walk in but Granite continues to glare at the Telminar before suddenly turning away as he says,

"Telminar I think you for saving the Captain, but I warn you, when it comes to matters of security on this ship my orders are absolute so should you for a second endanger this ship or her crew I will toss you out an airlock. And I will make damn sure that one doesn't connect to anything but the void."

Raz looks back at Granite with a grin on his face, his arms crossed across his chest as he casually leans against the wall, stepping forward he replies,

"If that is how you feel then should that situation arise go ahead and throw me out an airlock, but just be careful, airlocks are pretty dangerous you never know when you might get dragged out with whatever you just tossed."

You sigh as you walk across the room, Raz and Granite falling in behind you, it looks like some new tensions are gonna be heaped onto this ticking time bomb of a ship but you have to admit its gonna be interesting. With the two close behind you quickly make your way down onto the cargo deck, and as you head for the bay you find a the guards who came aboard with the refugees sitting about playing cards and smoking. You take a second to note that all of them have left their weapons within arm's reach before you approach,

"Hello I'm Captain John Roberts, and I'd like to welcome you aboard the Lazarus, I'm sorry we don't have better accommodations for you and the rest of your people. If there is anything you need please don't hesitate to ask."

One of the soldiers, a man about your height with short black hair, green eyes, and a burn scar covering the lower half of his right arm stands up as you speak. He listens to you patiently enough, and quickly replies,

"Thanks for the offer Captain, I am Nolan Irelson, ex-UM special forces, and leader of this group of men. We're glad you offered to help since when the station was alerted of the Marauders we were worried there wouldn't be enough space for all the people on board the station to escape.

While we are thankful for the accommodations we don't wish to ask you for anything as what you've provided is more then what we should be expecting or asking from you. However a few of the people were asking if your ship could defend itself if any of the Marauder warhounds caught up to us, do you think this ship could survive that?"

"Yes, yes, but me and my crew wont let that happen. Even if they do, we have an ace up our sleeve."
Try to avoid that topic of conversation.
Make sure that Granite and Raz don't see each other too much. Have them work different shifts or something.

I see your bump, and raise you an action.

Review the available weapon systems on board.
