Username Origins
« on: April 06, 2013, 12:07:15 am »

It all started, one dark night, when I decided to post on the Life Advice forum category.. It turned into a discussion about how everyone created their usernames and how awfully silly they were, and it was a bloody mess I tell you with all the pleasant on-the-rails conversing going on. It makes me sick. Everyone was sheepishly telling stories and dredging up good memories, and it only got worse from there on, especially once we started laughing at ourselves and becoming convinced that they were actually clever (yeah, right).

And now, here we are, on this thread. Ready to start the whole thing all over again.

HAHA! Just kidding that thread was marvellous I tell you. So anyhow, whats your story? How did you come up with your username?

I was trying to find a username for my original Xbox Live account that fit and I liked. Took me a couple of hours of on and off guessing. I was really into Dragon Quest VII at the time, and one of my thoughts was to name myself MetalSlimeHunter, after the multi-hour long excursions to find enough Metal Slimes to level up in the latter two-thirds of the game (nothing else really gives enough EXP).

So, MetalSlimeHunter it was....except that the original Xbox Live username character limit was 14 (only extended to 16 a few years later). So that left me with MetalSlimeHunt. I was very disappointed because that one was a winner of a name to me, but I was tired, and MetalSlimeHunt was still kind of like what I was going for. And so that's how it happened. MetalSlimeHunt grew on me and by the time I had the option to extend it I no longer wished to, having made it my standard username.

Mine was much the same. Searching for an available XBL username, 'Fuzzy Dice' was taken. And so...

But hey, it could be worse. I could have used the name of my old Runescape main.

First step to the road:
Arcade name. Initials to anagrams or close enough. From there to poor witticisms combined with favourite numbers. From there I decided upon something humorous and relatable. Dissatisfied with that though I settled with something a bit more original, albeit with a long existing theme of ideas or pursuits or whichever leads to the other (it's both) that end up outside rationality. I'm not sure exactly what mindset I was in when I thought this up but I probably wouldn't do it justice by trying to describe it.
Oxymoron in a concept.

Misspelling of Sirius for a Phantasy Star character. I stuck with it ever since, although the name has been taken on a depressingly large number of websites already  :-\

(it's pronounced Sci-russ, not Sir-us)

Oh hey, I remember that thread!
When you do a google search of 'Max White' you get blinded with cleaning products. I am internet ninja.
Heh, it is funny what you realize you have actually made the exact same joke in the past and not even remembered.

I mean in all seriousness it is because my name is Max, and I have a bit of a love affair with snow and ice, so White seemed to work well. My real last name is a bit trickier to get ones tongue around.

I don't know why I thought of Megaman, but I did.

Usually I just combine an adjective with a noun and go with that.

Actually with my new found affection for the ocean, beaches, and all things tropical, I was thinking of changing to 'Azure Beach' but I don't think anybody would recognize me.

I kind of go through phases where I like different landscapes. One day I might decide deserts are the apple of my eye, or forests are the greatest beauty.

I live in Australia and I love snow. And robes, and neko girls.
