Hey all, so I've had this idea after delving into my stash of old RPGs last week. I'm working on a Breath of Fire mod. It will encompass all the games with a tiny touch of my own herbs and spices thrown in. I just figured I'd throw this out there to see if it sparks anybody's interest. The work has been easy and quick so far, but I'm still dabbling in the art of modding.
For the moment I've copied some things, especially the magic spells I have in, from other mods just so I can work with them and learn how to make one from scratch.
The master plan, as it stands:
Races:
It may not be pracitcal to make all these full blown entities, but definately they should all be adventure mode playable.
Wyndian - Winged humans. I know the whole thing about fliers in fort mode, but I tested one out as an adventurer and flew around no problem.
Woren - Cat people, perhaps with a natural ambusher or fighting bonus. Also, they would not have pants, in keeping with the spirit of the game.
Shell Clan - Big muscular armadillo furries essentially. Still researching to see if the whole rolling into a ball for fast travel or combat is possible.
Grassrunners - more FURRIES, but just the ears and tails. I don't remember a whole lot about them, but I'm thinking they could fill the Kobold's role.
Manillo - Greedy yet cowardly le merchants. If social skills have any practical use in the game, they will get a bonus to this, in addition to being frog people and [AMPHIBIOUS]
Highlanders - Intelligent theiving monkeys. Would get a bonus to evasion
Shamans - A rare female caste within Humans. Hoping I can make them do something neat when encountered.
Weapons:
Cat Paw Staff - Modeled on Katt's weapon from BoF 2, with the cat's paw on the end for a sort of hammer/slashing type weapon. Don't want it to be overpowered though so need to find some balance.
Various mundane weapons from the games thrown in: Rapiers, Scythes, Trident, maybe a couple variations of swords or knives. I don't know much about weapons yet, and may keep it simple if they aren't too different. I don't forsee many weapon additions since magic weapons aren't quite possible as far as I know. Feel free to enlighten me if I'm wrong.
Wild Creatures:
As many as can be packed in from the games. The anatomy of some of the creatures should be a heck of a fun challenge. But here's what I've managed to add so far:
Gonghead - Flying beaked blob
Deathpede - Giant centipede with a human skull for a mouth. Still not quite right, but getting there. No longer crashing the Arena
Green Slime - Super simple. Babby's first mod project.
Vulcanoid - Rock golem with a gooey magma filling..er at least some kind of gas stuff.
Chimera - Exactly that. I copy+pasted somebody else's chimera for now.
Monoped - A one-legged goblin like creature with a unicorn's horn and cyclops eye (This was fun to make)
Gold Fly - A poisonous pest worth it's weight in gold, sadly not much
Gargoyle - The classic monster. I'll have it become a stone statue upon death
Terapin - An eldritch insectlike horror that creates face-hugger parasites. Do not yet have the facehugger spawning implemented
Jorgumand - A giant worm. Scaled up Cave Crawler, with poison
Director of Human Resources - A joke creature. A bald muscular man in a speedo and bowtie. If there is some way to make them appear only in towns or some such, they may stay in the mod.
(The Dir.HR. flexes at Dwarf 1 in the head, bruising the muscle!)
(The Dir.HR. bounces his pecs wildly at Dwarf 1 in the head...)
Secrets:
Secrets of the Wyndian elders - Allows for transforming into a giant bird
Secrets of the Manillo sphere - Allows transformation into a giant frog
^ none of the secrets are implemented, still researching
Semimegabeasts
Different types of dragons, since they play such a huge part in the games.
Gold Dragons - Vanilla
Blue Dragons - Frost attacks
Green Dragons - Poison or perhaps geomancy related
Zombie Dragons - Undead versions, can raise dead like necromancers
Red Dragons - Fire
Black Dragons - Electric/lightning pokemon...er dragons
*Planning to add more varieties as ideas hit me.
Megabeasts:
The Stone Robot - A copy of the bronze colossus but made out of stone. He gets a lightning attack to simulate his laser beam and balance out being made of weaker material.
Materials:
Goldsteel - Unrelated to the game, just something I came up with. It's found in tiny clusters inside native gold, you smelt it and get goldsteel, which has the same attributes as steel with the sexy butter coloring of gold. Can be used for weapons and armor.
Dorfs:
Dwarves will stay in the game exactly as they are. Why? Because Dorfs are awesome that's why! They can strike the earth in alternate dimensions if they want!
And that's it for now. Comments and/or criticism is appreciated, or ideas and suggestions. If you're a BoF fan and I got something wrong, feel free to point it out.
