Chop them down, stockpile them, burn them, make bins, wheelbarrows and minecarts out of them, brew anything brewable that comes out, dump any other byproducts.  Same as usual.  I'm pretty indifferent to nature unless it can kill.

Maybe train war trees and post them at entrances and choke points.

If you bury an elf in the ground in a terrifying biome, will it grow into an elf-bone tree?

Killing them first is optional.

Incidentally, sentry trees are a staple in my forts these days, since fruit trees are creatures in the mod I play.  They make pretty good sentries aside from the fact that they barely fight back.

Seeing them fight each other in the pasture makes up for it in the entertainment department however.  It's also funny to watch invaders hack them down.

As fun as this is, I'd give it up for the real trees coming soon.  :)

Sen-trees? That's a terrible practical pun and you should be ashamed.

I think we are all barking up the wrong tree here. I think the only thing dwarves haven't done so far is created massive tree-forts out of wood, just to spite the environment.

Maybe you need to look to the root of the cause.

And have underground sock-trees to provide socks and training to new soldiers.

And have underground sock-trees to provide socks and training to new soldiers.

This would inevitably result in clowns killing that tree, wielding socks, and beating your legendary champions to death with them. I like it.

You are all so insensitive! Topic full of dead trees - that's just fell!

There are children internet users around here, you trolls! Don't call it death in front of them! I suppose logging out could work - we are on internet forum after all.

I wonder if it's possible to trap a creature in a room, have a tree growing under a hatch cover which you then open and then grow to the point they're crushed against the ceiling.

This is highly unlikely but would be a great source of noble entertainment.
