If NASA was faking we'd already have half a dozen viable colonies in other star systems.
IDEA: Axis victory timeline where the Nazis don't have superscience, or any real science for that matter, but are using a massive propaganda campaign to portray themselves as having already set up their interstellar empire (permits to travel off of Earth currently not being accepted due to launch safety study, please try again later).
We can have that in our own timeline. All it would take would someone willing to take the idea into Best Korea.
Hell, it'd probably be more believable than unicorns in tanks.

*sudden realization that tanks are actually a lot like unicorns*

I mean... beast of burden with a large horn coming out the "head"? We should make some sentient tanks and see if they can identify virgins.

Here are two things I've always wondered-
1.  If some of the early human technology was too advanced for people to come up with, how did the aliens that came up with it discover it?
2.  How do we know that WE aren't the forerunner species with the hyper-advanced technology that's going to raid the other planets?  People always assume that we will be the inferior species.

They were taught intelligence by even more ancient precursors. It's aliens all the way down.

So we'll eventually teach it to other aliens?

Those poor, poor first precursors.  They had to bang rocks together until one of them accelerated to faster then light travel.

Yes. Every species will eventually mature to a stage where they will enjoy nothing more than flying around in the skies of some less developed planet, careful to be seen but not seen too often, just to troll the local governments who have to hush up the whole thing.

Or in some instances, pose as gods or subjugate the primitives.

Or nuke them from orbit, just to be sure.

Or use the inhabitants to breed a species of parasitic reptilian-like aliens which can be hunted for sport or as an initiation ritual in their civilization.
Also, posting to watch.
