I am not a happy bunny.
« on: March 29, 2013, 07:49:25 pm »

So for the first time, after abandoning several forts and taking a few really long breaks while trying to climb the learning cliff, I had finally got a pretty decent fort running. You know, for a newby. For once I was willing to see this one right through to the end.
And now, thanks to some "save compression" error, my wave got corrupted, and said fort is now unplayable.
Of all the ways I envisioned this one ending, i did not expect this.
So much time and effort, gone! And my dwarfs didn't even get a good death! They're just gone!
I never got to say goodbye...

Just thought I'd share, since I don't really have much to post here.

That is a fate far worse than being massicred by cow skin.

Exerpt from townbrush.txt by Internet Kraken:

"Nobody wants to live in Townbrush, and for good reason. Almost everyone that has come to Townbrush has been eaten, stabbed, crushed, drowned, hacked, incinerated, or beaten to death with an octopre skin backpack. When we're not under siege, we're being attacked by Forgotten Beasts. And when we're not being attacked by Forgotten Beasts, there's probably a zombie whale crushing someone to death in the dining room."

Every fort lost is a learning experience. The lesson from this one: Turn on autosaves.

Also in /data/init/init, turn compressed saves off.

That's a terrible experience, it shouldn't happen again.

It's useful to keep a ‼torch‼ handy.

I've never ever once played with compressed saves on, just because I heard it made them easier to transfer (succession games and whatnot.)

I am pleased with my decision, and offer my condolences.

I sacrifice two pigs in solemn will for this lost Fortress.
