If a proliferation of bitcoin derivatives arise, that would probably destroy the market for bitcoins and all derivatives.  If the value is driven by scarcity and there isn't any scarcity...
You just hate the upcoming glory of dogecoin. Why do you resist the future, bank lover?
Yeah! Why do you hate peace and money? Jeeze guys.

There are no guides to dogecoin
Err.. on the dogecoin forum... under 'introduction to dogecoin' category, there is a topic "Tutorial"

http://doges.org/index.php?topic=76.0
Yeah, I've gotten that far. Now, how I join pool?

“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Come on man, have you even looked? There is a whole section on digging coins. http://doges.org/index.php?board=2.0

This one tells you how to use minerd to mine with your CPU and join a pool as well: http://doges.org/index.php?topic=283.0

(Note that minerd will pop as a false positive in some antivirus software but it is safe. See Here

If you want GPU mining there are a few tutorials on that, like this one: http://doges.org/index.php?topic=592.0

Plenty of info out there, just look around.

In my defense, some of that stuff (notably, the Noobs Guide to Mining Dogecoin) hadn't been posted yet. It should have occurred to me to look for guides to a specific miner, however, instead of looking for any kind of overarching guide.

A lot of people are probably regretting investing in them right now.

For those who want more information, China forced several bitcoin exchanges out of operation, and now the course is done to 1 bitcoin = 550 USD

It's the perfect time to buy, while the price is low![/speculator]

Chances are it will get lower once people understand that these things are volatile.

Well, they know they're volatile. They just don't realize that volatile doesn't imply that the price will go up again.

I don't know, I bet healthy chunk of that value was people thinking it was a ticket to the moon with no possible risks involved.

The trick is to be the guy who creates the currency. Promote it, set aside half of the currency to inflate in value, and sell slowly over time so by the time it crashes you've still made a bunch of real money. And if it completely crashes and you haven't sold any - well you're not actually out any real money.

Yup. I suspect their actual value to be around the low double digits; assuming they aren't outright abandoned when the price continues to tank (whether that happens today or 5 years down the road, who knows; though I also suspect it will be around for at least a couple more years).

And once again today, as happened in the last crash, the top thread on the bitcoin subreddit is a link to a suicide prevention hotline.
