Start brewing up some Poison resist potions. I under-use potions myself, but they really do help in some of the tougher fights.

I barely used potions on my playthrough (completed it today, yay), I didn't like how short their durations were.

For the that area I mostly used haste spells to counter the slow effect and the Geomancer shield spell (Earth Shield? I forget the name) for the hefty poison resist and bonus hitpoint pool.  They're short durations too (everything is :-\), but I felt they gave more bang for my action point bucks.

Also might be worth returning at a later level depending when you're tackling it - I first encountered that area around level 11 (I thought the mines were in there) and trying to fight through it at that level was a major slog.

Which one's Rapture?  Is that the ranger charm spell? If so, sure, I've had it work.  You'll want to either have very high dex or debuff the target's willpower for anything close to consistent success with it though.

If is the ranger charm spell then I've used it a lot too. Super consistent. Only had it fail on some boss characters.

My ranger is pure dex though.

I've been playing a few days now, and from what I can see this game has serious legs beneath it. The character creation system means multiple playthroughs shouldn't be boring, and the content in the game makes it a lot of fun.

One of the things I dislike is the lack of serious character development between the main characters and their minions. A few other cRPGs have done party dynamics and interpersonal relationships well, but this one falls flat. Additionally the NPC dialog in towns loops too quickly and becomes very annoying.

Overall though, a decent game. Well worth the money.

Current build: Marksman/Scoundrel & Earth/Fire for main characters with crazy lady for Tank and Water/Air mage support.

Yeah, I wish my hired allies had more of a personal reason to be following me around. They have backstories, but those become meaningless the instant I hire them. I don't really understand how I hired them, either. I mean, avoiding spoilers here, but how did they end up there? Were they just plucked from their beds and brought to me, or what? Maybe I missed something.

On a related note, has anyone ever successfully landed Rapture? Every time I use it it fails...
Rapture being the scoundrel charm skill? I used it just once with my ranger and it didn't fail.

'The Knight in See-through Armour', 'Princess Buttercup with the Blushing Bottom'?? Sjent'teken! Esmeralda does have a propensity for all things... naughty, hasn't she?!

Even if the lines do get repeated often, they always give me a good chuckle. :D

Yeah, at least they're actually pretty good lines.

Cf. the horrible Skyrim lines: "Do you come to the cloud district often? Oh no, how stupid of me, of course you don't."

How about the violent female voice set for Dragon Age Origins?
'Do you have a ladder so you can get off my back?'

So I want to do crafting in this game, but I am aware I am doing it at the risk of ruining my characters...

I wonder if I could do a lonewolf run instead...

I know, I mean... without making my characters weak.

Since there are 3 profession skills. There are a lot of things I'd love to do in this game... not enough to do it all!

I was really hoping one of my friends would get this game... I wanted to play with them... ohh well

On the contrary; my ranger eventually pushed the tank's resistance in my party for all four major elements to over 100% with good crafting.
All the heals.

Edit: My bf and I play together, and it's great! He plays the tank and two-handed damage dealer, and I am the mage and ranger.
