I can't do tongue. Something about tasting food that can taste me back....  :-\

It's not meat, but I've also had snake wine. Which is a polite way of saying "rice vodka with a snake drowned in it, for flavor". Not bad stuff actually, rather sweet and licorice-like. Reminded me of Drambuie. Supposed to be good medicine in the winter to prevent chest colds and the like.

Thats a bit like someone saw that tequila with a worm in it and said "Bitch, please..."

Snake, gator... fairly sure I've ate turtle at some point, many years back. Remember the snake tasting like kilbasa sausage (however the hell you spell that). Don't recall what the gator tasted like but I do remember enjoying it. Didn't like the turtle much. I've tried venison, if that counts, in the past, and I think shark, once. No possum, squirrel, or raccoon, but I'm relatively certain I've had all those ate around me, for what that's worth.

I was tricked into eating caviar (/roe) at one point. Was kinda' pissed off. Definitely don't recall enjoying the taste. Dem "grits" were fucked up.

I've had black caviar before. It tastes alright, I think. Not great, I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it.

Do you know what Drambuie means? I know it's unrelated but it may interest you. "An dram buidheach" - the drink that satisfies. That's also quite interesting. Where did you drink it? I've heard of something like that out in Southeast Asia somewhere... Laos I think.
I had it at an expat bar in Hangzhou. You can find it in China (particularly South China), but it's really much more of a Southeast Asian thing -- Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, etc. Big ol' jar with the snake clearly visible, and a tap on it.

Proprietor had a rule -- if you drank a snake shot and kept it down, it was free and the next drink was on the house. Otherwise, it was like $10 for the snake shot. (Roughly 2/3 of Westerners would toss their cookies apparently, even some Chinese too)

Needless to say, I got good and royally fucked up for cheap that night.  :P

@Frumple: Oh lord....not a fan of caviar, but at my bachelor's party we ordered two giant sushi boats. Every kind of roe you could imagine -- bright red salmon roe, tiny orange sea urchin roe, etc. I was digging it all. Until the various and sundry boozes in my system conspired to reverse gears in my esophagus.

my first thought was "oh sweet jesus, what did I break inside of me? D: D: D:"

Never really been able to do roe again after that. *shudder*

They all still look alive to me. The black ones look even aliver.

Oh. My bad. That's because they are.

I only saw the already-fried ones myself.

I am now upset on several different levels.

Hm. Does turkey bacon count? Both turkey and bacon are bog-standard, but turkey bacon is apparently uncommon enough that people aren't always familiar with it, which is a travesty considering how it is like bacon which cooks perfectly every time and isn't half-composed of blobs of fat.

I'm quite surprised we've made it this far without any innuendo. Bravo!

Turkey bacon's fairly normal where I'm at, at least. Sell it at walmart and everything.

And yeah, as you note. Preparation is much easier and more consistent (especially in the microwave!) and it's still delicious.

Lesse... Well, dog tops the list. :P I always say it's like a less firm, more smelly (like mutton) beef. Had it in a stew. Not bad, not especially good...

I've had a lot of sushi. And lots of types of clam. And octopus, squid, calamari, and cuttlefish (Master of tentacles? XD). But nothing eapecially notable.

Ostrich tastes like beef with the texture of chicken (lived on a farm of them until I was five. Yeah.)

Yeah, most of them taste pretty normal, or even shit though. The ones I liked are snails, eels, and frogs. Snails... they're pretty bland and tasteless, but they texture really make up for it. Japanese eels are probably the best thing I've ever eaten in my life, end of story. Frogs are commonly eaten in my country, and they're like dried pork I guess.

Snails need a good sauce to go with, but they can be very good (it really depends who made them). And japanese eels are indubitably excellent  :D
Never eaten frogs though, which is odd.

Frogs have a really good texture and very mild flavor. They're really great, though. It's been too long since I've had them.

Reindeer? It wasn't just his red nose that Santa was interested in...Rudolph is also rich and tasty when dead and butchered.

Have you every tried any of the "non-standard" meats?

Horse:
It is extremely bland. It's not bad but cardboard has more flavor.

Bear:
Tastes very good, has a unique flavor, but is extremely greasy. So greasy that while the first few bites are good, it becomes difficult to keep eating because it's like drinking lard.

Also, rabbit, duck, squid, squid jerky, octopus, shark, sea urchin, cow tongue, snails, frogs, etc. Not sure any of these count as "non-standard" though.
