Can you mod skills?

I was doing some stuff, and I wondered, can you add new skills as part of a mod?

No. Only thing you can do is rename them. There is also knapping, magic_nature and alchemy which arent used in the vanilla DF that you could use.

Knapping is most definitely used, at least in... adventure mode ;)

Knapping is most definitely used, at least in... adventure mode ;)
Where it does precisely nothing.

Other than gain experience, which does nothing for it.

I'm talking about the skill itself, producing a sharp stone is useful, but it's link to knapping is completely meaningless as of right now.

Oh look, I have a steam account.
Might as well chalk it up to Pathos.
As this point we might as well invoke interpretive dance and call it a day.

This is wrong too! It increases the sharpness of the rock. Never had a +sharp+ granite?

The more skilled a knapper you are, the better quality sharpened stones you'll produce. It most certainly functions as it should as a skill.

I have never once had a sharped rock produce quality levels, I'll be sure to play as grand-master knappers from now on.

Another stupid question. How do you make sure that when making a reaction to make paired armor, that you get left and right instead of the unusable generic?

The wiki lists Balance, Coordination, Discipline, Druid (magic_nature), Military tactics, Poet, Reader, Speaker, Tracker, Wordsmith, and Writer as unused skills.

You can find the appropriate tokens on the Skill Tokens page.

Although Reader at least is slightly used in adventure mode (You need to generate your hero with at least 1 rank of Reader to learn secrets from reading books and slabs)

Note also that dwarves who acted as scouts during world generation will come to your fort with levels in Tracker, often high ones, so if you want this to be something exclusive you probably shouldn't use that skill.

It would be brutally difficult and probably won't work. In other words, it's absolutely dwarven!

This is an interesting detail. I guess with the upcoming changes (being able to track footprints in adv mode) this skill might become useful
