I don't think I should have to point out the hypocrisy, I only ask that you justify it somehow. Petty revenge does not a valid justification make, in my opinion.

You think I reported it? I thought I was pointing out the hypocrisy.

And I was pointing out the hypocrisy of the people who complained about the comments section, and then reported the video to prevent its speech. That was the very thing I was addressing in the first place. The hypocrisy of people doing that.

I see no reason to criticize her for locking the comments sections.

For this reason, and this one, and this one.

Am I the only one who agrees with locking the comment section? Edit: Thanks Vector :3

You KNOW it would just devolve into a shitfest of hate. No discussion worthy of the name would come from it. And people who actually -want- to discuss it can talk about it on other sites that link to it?

Current hypothesis is is actually a copyright claim. That's generally the only thing that will make youtube move this fast. (Though it could well be a bogus one)

Youtube allows people to make legitimate copyright claims on behalf of property owners. Added with the recent clusterfuck around nintendo claiming all things nintendo, it's almost certain a good deal amount of people did that. Youtube autobots do not listen to clauses of fair use, they are cold, uncaring machines.

She is posting images of videogames... On Youtube... Where there are robots who do nothing all day but report these images.

It isn't unfathomable that it is the reason her video was taken down. It will be back up eventually, it may just take an hour to a week.

As for her Locking the comments section. It is a situation where most people understand why she did it, but it will always feel scummy because the world isn't fair. Yes she locked it because of the trolls, but she locked it. It is similar to where if I broke up with my crazy girlfriend over the phone or with text because she might become violent. Sure everyone will understand WHY I did it, but everyone will also think I am scummy for not doing it face to face.

It is Taboo basically.

Saying "she locked it because of the trolls, but she locked it" is like saying "she banned them because of the griefing/racism, but she banned them."

In other words, I don't see why using a tool put there -for this exact purpose- is cause to make her out as the bad guy?

I find it highly unlikely that it was taken down because it had clips from games in it; something like this would probably fall into the same category as LPs and similar things. The most likely cause is false copyright claims made by people wanting it removed for one reason or another.

The whole nintendo kerfluffle is that nintendo claims all LPs as theirs.

It is basically Taboo.

Like my crazy girlfriend example. Everyone who hears my reason for breaking up with her over the phone will understand, they will also think I am scummy for not doing it face to face.

Likewise most people know why she closed her comments down, but it still makes her look scummy because youtube etiquette suggests you don't do that.

By all means she should keep the comments section down, but that doesn't make it any less taboo.

It isn't like that hasn't happened before. Sega did a purge before and so did Nintendo.

'She banned everyone because of the trolls, but she banned everyone.'

There's not really a good guy or a bad guy, it's just you can't claim to be up to free speech if you are against free speech. Before feminism on the internet, there was a time where atheists and the religious fought for supremacy on the internet, in flame wars that scarred the internet to the core. On youtube, one such theatre, it was telling of which channels actually cared about progressing to understanding:
They were the ones that left their channels open, open to criticism, praise, hate and discussion.

There wasn't much conversation to be had on the well known video's discussing such topics, Loud Whispers, which Youtube is infamous for too this day. If nothing will come of it, then why bother fouling your video and site, particularly when more nuanced commentary can be found elsewhere?

Closing a youtube comments section isn't inhibiting free speech. Because it's your platform. It's the same way youtube saying what can and cannot appear on their platform (no porn!) is not inhibiting free speech (unless there's collusion among everyone with a platform to suppress and no one can start their own, of course) or, more locally, the fact that some game developers don't both to run a forum at all. It's censorship, yes, but not the kind that is actually a threat to free speech, and her actions aren't even censorship (she's making no decisions on who can say what), that's simply refusing to provide a venue - it's no more inhibiting free speech than your refusal to provide a forum for these people to comment in.

Harassing someone to insure that their words cannot appear on ANY platform because you disagree with their message, that is inhibiting free speech. That is serious censorship.

Not having comments on your video isn't anything close, and reflects poorly on you if you can't resist conflating the two.

Refusing to provide a platform for others to speak is just... normal behaviour. There is no obligation to provide a venue.

If there is, though, and you really care about free speech, I have a few forums I need you to set up.
