If you are searching for a beast, i posted some week ago (actually, it's the first drawing of this new post, made by Darkerdark, the March 25, 2013, 09:17:00 pm) a quite long story of an epic fight between an elf and a FB.

just my personal opinion but i prefer something that hasnt already been drawn so perfectly.
It leaves more to the imagination rather then people trying to replicate the already amazing artwork.

Something from the What's Going On In Your Fortress I have enjoyed:

A forgotten beast attacked Metalsnakes. Kor, the giant, winged ice humanoid. He had poisonous vapor, which turned out to merely dizzy it's victims and put them to sleep. Two ten-dwarf squads rushed the icy devil, and spent damn near a month periodically whacking away at it and napping in front of it. Luckily Kor was very fond of his vapor, electing not to punch or kick, but just exude free drugs for everyone until the soldiers eventually took him apart piece by piece. No deaths, only one dwarf suffered a head burn somehow.

Guardedseal just got it's first Forgotten Beast. And it was a pretty badass one actually.

"The Forgotten Beast Tob Setnuushmal has come! A great hairy bristleworm. It has thin wings of stretched skin and it appears to be emaciated. It's jade hair is short and even. Beware its poisonous sting!"

It's sting wasn't very poisonous at all, however it happened to sting two of my civvies in the head, causing instant death. It then bit another one in the head. Dead.

At this point my military intercepted it and fought it for ages. Somehow it was able to wrestle my Macedwarf using it's wings, and it broke all his limbs (lol). Fortunately it took so long maiming the poor guy (killed him with a headbite in the end) that my more competent soldiers were able to maim it's internal organs and cut the wings and stinger off. Eventually they killed it, but it was by far the longest FB battle I've seen, the beast seemed to have never ending fat for the swords to slice through.

The huge corpse is being hauled slowly to the butcher now. Kind of wondering if that's a good or bad thing. Anyone want to eat hairy, poisonous worm meat for the next eight months? No?

Oh, and almost forgot, my militia captain named his Iron Sword afterwards and gave it quite possibly the most ridiculously cool name I've ever seen a weapon possess: "Moralrite the Turquoise Blizzard". A morally just blade that attacks with the ferocity of an icy storm. Win!

A Forgotten Beast wandered into the caverns of Wirejade. A towering feathered serpent with a trunk and a bloated body, called Radavi the Jackal of Twilight. Able to spray deadly dust. Like many times before, I sent out the military to counter it, expecting at most a few dead soldiers.

It sat in the middle of an underground lake, so I decided to provoke it with marksdwarves and make it walk straight into the middle of my troops. It attacked them, just as I expected, and turned towards the rest of the soldiers. Then I noticed the marksdwarves are already dead, despite being hit only with dust. Checking the health of some animals which were unlucky enough to get caught up in the battle revealed the cause.

"Deadly" was a major understatement. The dust literally caused the entire body to rupture. Death from blood loss followed within seconds.

I evacuated the warriors, and fortunately the beast walked back into the lake. I was already digging out a chunk of the ceiling to drop on its head... I'm not sure what happened then. I think a passing hunter started shooting at it, making it crawl out of the water, and was killed. Afterwards the beast kept moving from dwarf to dwarf, leaving a trail of blood and destruction. About 40 dwarves, including a large portion of the military, died. Damn thing was fast, too - ordering everybody to go back into the fortress proper did little.

One of the dwarves who didn't make it was my captain of the guard, Sakzul Riddlegirder the Clean Call, slayer of seven Forgotten Beasts, two of which she literally bisected. Adamantine chain mail, artifact helm and shield, ☼adamantine short sword☼ forged by the duke himself - nothing helped her in any way. The beast slammed her into the wall with its dust... she got up, walked a few steps and promptly collapsed next to a torn apart hyena cub. I didn't mention this infernal serpent is exceptionally good at ripping out limbs. It got hit a few times, though - it's middle spine is broken. Not that it helps much. Other injuries are probably caused by its own dust throwing it into walls.

At this point, I decided to seal off the caverns, abandoning whoever was left there to their doom. There are still some survivors, picking wild plump helmets. After that, I did the last thing I hope will get me read of that abomination.

I breached the hollow adamantine spire.

This had the downside of having whoever was far below the fortress, in the magma forges level, mercilessly slaughtered in a number of gruesome ways. But hey, the beast would get them sooner or later, right? I ordered them to forge some armament for themselves so they would at least die armed and fighting, and organized them into squads. One received the name "The Evisceration of Smiths". It's more or less an accurate description of what's happening now.

Anyway, that brings us where we are now. The demons are assaulting the forges, and dwarves are getting roasted alive and kicked across the room. Smoke, blood, corpses and various metal garbage is everywhere. The beast is slowly destroying the base of my old pumpstack I used to dry an underground pond. Everything below z-level -11 is dead, dying, or will be dead. All that stands between Wirejade and its doom is an artifact bituminous coal hatch cover and some nickel bridges.

There are three demons futilely trying to kill a cave blob. One of the others got named "Hatedemons".

Current death count: About 100 and increasing, 339 dwarves alive.

It isn't over yet.

I agree with Ameablable. DarkerDarker's submission is great (as always), but because it has been around for a while it will influence how future creatures will be drawn. I think we need something that can spark more imagination.

  I am actually better at pixel art than sketching for most things; forgot about it though. I forgot all about drawing something, but I'll try and get something pixelly for the next fb once it is picked. What size is preferred for a "tileset" image, 18x18, 18x10, what?

Hm, if you're making tileset graphics, just make it compatible with DF sizes - which are fairly small. Honestly, I'd say any size works but I believe 16x16 is the standard for DF tilesets.

Came within the 48 hours of the vote, so we will do Ulet the Roasted Thunder. The fact that it's a warthog, and it's nickname is "Roasted Thunder" makes me think of bacon
