Clout: Round One, Turn 3 - The Philosopher King

CLOUT

In this game, players take on the role of leaders of nations or factions in a world.  They must strive both against external forces and internal political struggles, aiming to achieve dominion or union of their realm.

Players start with a faction composed of 10 units of Infrastructure, a government and two allied minor NPC factions, 4 Might and 12 Wealth to get them started (upkeep is free for the first turn).  Players may determine their starting government and the names and approximate cultural identities of the allied NPC factions (but not their governments, which are semi-randomly determined).

There are six slots available to players.  The first round will be set on a single large landmass during the Middle Ages, so please choose thematically appropriate factions.  The only power base that might be difficult for the period is multi-media, as corporations should still technically work as guilds.  On the other hand, if you want to play a faction of hegemonic printers and bookbinders who am I to stop you?

Roleplaying isn't strictly necessary, but I prefer it and it makes for a better read.  Try to have some level of background for your sides.

Sounds cool. Might write up a nation if there is still  any room left tomorrow.

This seems highly interesting. Might post a character sheet.

Probably not though.

Yep, that's a good app right there.  Feel free to put in more fluff if you like as well.

I'll set up the first turn either late tonight or tomorrow, once slots are filled.  Emral, you're accepted.

Ardas, your sheet is slightly off but that's probably because I didn't explain properly.  Initially all you need to do is allocate your 10 Infrastructure and pick your government and power base.  Gov & power base are fine, but I think I confused you and you ended up assigning resources instead.

Just pick how to split your ten Inf between Economic, Military and Social and you're good.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You just declare NPC support to start with, but you can make alliances pre-game, sure.  You can also do so on Turn 1, which would probably be better.  There are some slight inaccuracies on your sheet (You'd get 70% bonus Wealth and 20% bonus Influence, for one) but I'll edit that all for you.  The important bit is the government choice and infrastructure, which you've done nicely.  Thank you.  Accepted.

Edit:  I may rebalance power bases and government types as the game goes on, if it becomes clear that certain govt types are wildly superior to others.  Expect nerfs over boosts.  Right now Plutocracy's looking a bit suspect, it might get dropped to 25% wealth (and Democracy to 10%), but we'll see how that plays out.

I changed the name in deference to Emral. Having two Serene Republics running around is like two Khanates.

Jarldom of Finster
A loose Coalition of Raiders and Traders. They are ruled by the mightiest and wealthiest warriors among them, the Jarls.

Government: HEGEMONY
Primary Power Base: KLEPTOCRACY
5 Economic Infrastructure
4 Military Infrastructure
1 Social Infrastructure

EDIT: 9 Might, 5,25 Wealth   is that correct?

It would appear to me that some combinations are overpowered and some government types outright broken.

Extremely.  I'll need to sim them a bit to discover the right proportions, that there's a benefit to not going autarchic but so that there's a reason not to be a hegemonic plutocracy.

Shall likely revise those later tonight.
