Hey Jimmy, we use the (product) of those, but we get to see the honours students working with them. One of our classes was preparing the slides after being given the slices - a lot of very toxic chemicals, but lots of fun.

Well, at least the ad is going Streisand Effect now, so a lot of people will see it.

Unfortunately it's a case of typical consumer media outlets manufacturing consent in the populace to further their own political interests.

Surprised nobody is talking about the Liberal's massive backflip on their plans of internet censorship. Moral of this story is not to reveal stupid backwards policies just hours before an election.
Really hoping we'll see some Greens in the senate at the very least, as they have a fairly decent digital platform and can hopefully block any of this nonsense.

Mandatory filtering usually starts with the old "Think of the Children!" argument, with a dose of "Catch the Terrorists!" However, it'll probably end up turning into "Censor the Internet! Sue the Pirates!"

I expect any party attempting something along these lines will quickly meet SOPA style resistance from the more tech-savvy populace.

But also sadly met with support by the not very tech savy populace. Go ask a baby boomer who doesn't work in the digital industry what they think of a mandatory internet filter, if they say they're against it just drop the child porn bomb on them.
Both Labor and Liberal have now shown interest in censoring the net and I would much rather see a buffer of senators rather than going to a protest every month.

The "UK method" of having a mandatory filter with opt-out is just as damaging as a plain filter. Suddenly you know have a "deviance list" and with that the ability to politically blackmail. You'll also be handing over more power and access to sensitive data to the ISPs which is the furthest thing from okay.
However having a readily accessible government (or private) filter should be encouraged as long as it's opt-in, negating almost all the concerns regarding liberty of having a filter but giving concerned parents a tool to control what they want their family to access.

So the other day I passed the voting station in my town and figured I might as well actually vote this year for once... and then discovered the deadline for registration was last month. :P Oh well.

Voted today. Never have I've had some much concentrated hatred at a piece of paper. I wish we had a Schulze system so I could place all the loons equal last.

Went and cast my vote. SOrt of perturbed by the fact that my electorate has, in addition to the big two, a 3:1 ratio of right-left wing parties. Probably balanced out by the fact that the Greens were the only one of the four that anyone takes seriously

Look on the bright side, several tiny unelectable right wing parties will just drain votes from the real threats.
