What is your favorite wildlife/animal?
« on: March 22, 2013, 04:59:18 pm »

Mine is giant ravens, in a couple of forts back I had a giant raven spawn. He would always fly around my noble tower ( I made a big above-ground tower for my nobles ). But this tower also has glass windows. So I always imagined it would be tapping and ever so rapping at my mayor's chamber window. Reenacting the scene from "The Raven", but instead it was a harry dwarf lady and a giant mutant.

But then he killed a goat and we had to turn him into stew. I really wanted to catch him but giant flying things usually prefer not the ground.

So what is your favorite subject of the animal kingdom?

Giraffes, but I'm biased.

Keas have always had a vibe about them of mystery and "why is this bird taking my anvil, I'm on a goddamn tundra" feelings, so I'd put them at number two... though that's more of a love-hate relationship.

The words "kea" and "love" do not belong together in the same sentence.

My favorite animal?  Penguins.  Though having to embark on a frozen ocean makes finding them and raising an army of war penguins tricky.

PS: Seriously, you must have, like, super-getting-lost skills. You could go missing in a straight corridor and impale yourself on flat ground if I don't tell you where to go.

Crundles count right? Those little bastards have grown on me. I use them as low level sentries, in large groups, they are the bane of child snatchers and kobolds.

Dear Armok, YES

I set a flock* of crundles as my warning system for when cavern creatures tried to enter my stairwell. Cave crawlers or maneras or whatever would path toward the stairs and I'd get a dozen "The Crundle is fighting!" combat reports, send militia in, etc. I don't think most people realize just how quickly they reproduce.

*what is a large group of crundles called anyway? Flock? Mess? Convent? Rave?

Children you rescue shouldn't behave like rabid beasts.  I guess your regular companions shouldn't act like rabid beasts either.
I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

I'm partial towards cave crocodiles, because they are the first animals I intentionally farmed.

After I managed to secure my fort against them...I'd go with Giant Desert Scorpions (admired for their tails). Yeah, if one gets into your fort early on it's pretty much reclaim time. But after seeing a goblin siege run into one...well, my current project is to catch as many as I can and make the most lethal moat ever. Gotta respect a critter that scares off evil hordes all by itself.

A bunch (considering what a crundle actually is outside of the game)
