Should I lance a bloody blister?
« on: March 22, 2013, 01:23:57 pm »

Well, I'm not sure if it's technically blister, but whatever. Three days ago I pinched the tip of my little finger with a door. A bloody blister arose shortly, and it doesn't appear to be decreasing in size. I didn't lance it, thinking it'll get reabsorbed and I can avoid having skin peel off, but now I'm starting to wonder. Was my initial guess correct, or will I develop necrosis or something if I just leave it be?

I don't think it's a major issue. If anything, the skin will thin out, and it'll likely rupture on it's own anyway.

Uh. . . is this a blood blister, or a bloody blister?  My blood blisters have always just fallen off eventually after sticking around at the same size, so I wouldn't worry.  Dunno about the second, but I'd guess it should just be left alone... ?  Three days isn't usually a long timeframe to expect blister change in.

* I'm not a doctor, but seriously, if it's just a little blood blister it should be fine.

Doubt Necrosis 'll form from a simple blister. Dunno what you should do, you could try to lance it (from the side, as close to the skin as possible, not the top) or maybe use one of those blister patch thingies, which apparently work quite well.

As long as there's no inflammation or anything, everything should be fine.

Inadvisable. From your description, you'll just cause more bleeding. It doesn't sound like a wound that has been isolated from the bloodstream, and thus should not be lanced.

It's quite dark, which is why I'm concerned it's cut off from bloodstream. Then again, it'd be kinda hard to cut off a little bit of skin on the finger from bloodstream. But it's mainly bothering me because it makes using left shift and ctrl a bit uncomfortable (not painful, just uncomfortable). Then again, lancing isn't Christian, so I think I'll just leave it for a couple more days and see what comes of it.

Yeah, if it's just a blood blister then usually the blood will coagulate in there and become quite hard.  There's really no danger of necrosis, to my understanding.

No, I figured I'd just go to a Renaissance fair and ask some knight a favour.
