Agreed. In the case of DF, I play without invasions because that means i can build grander stuff without having to build something ugly.

I do the same...but it's always in preparation for turning invasions on.

I'm worrying that this game will not be much more than a good-looking Anno-like game. :(
The first gameplay elements are just so much unoriginal.

I hope I'll be proven wrong.

Dwarf fortress is kept floating by donations and today's love for his game rather than the pay off as with most roguelikes. Yes it's free to play but it has none of the crap which other company's put in their games due to the need to make money somehow

Then free games with no form of income from anywhere tend to be shallow and or just 10 minute coffee games due to lack of time being able to spend on it

If the developer had a huge backing and supporters like what DF does and makes a constant income off his game then fair enough he has no need to make people pay for his game due to support from donations from his fans

I'm just sore about F2P it's just a bad payment model, in my opinion and tend to produce sub par games because they have to make money somehow.

I just want to buy a game once and none of the bull

I agree that F2P games like how EA has them are shit. but you have free games that dont ever get donations and still exist like cataclysm dark days ahead. never asked for donations, no kickstarter, etc.

Can I have some links please ? I'm quite interested now, it would be nice to have something change my mind.

in the back of my head when ever I see F2P I think EA and how horrible it might be.

But also I guess if the developer has a lot of time on his hands and really loves his game then you can get great quality games for no price. Like what unreal world is doing now, although I did pay for the game to not feel cheep :P

You are confusing F2P with DLC, that is what EA fill games with.

I'm really not there are a lot of F2P games which could have been good and I got a bit excited about which turned into crap.

Anywayyy looking forward to the game, has anyone invited the developer over to chat ?

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

Considering the name one would assume that villagers are a bunch of exiles and when its proclaimed to be survival, atleast I would have assumed that they would start with barely nothing, buliding crapshacks and struggling to make a living and after some time develop into what is shown in the videos.
But I shouldnt be unreasonable, its a indie production and doing a cultural development curve would demand a lot of resources but right now its just medieval age village simulator.
Only the latest video seems to start out with that pre-built structure and the stockpile of supplies. If you watch the other trailer it in fact shows him having to build the basic storage and stockpile. I'm sure the full length video was just set up before hand to make it easier to show off.
