Fuzzyness, dizzyness, blurryness etc.
« on: March 21, 2013, 02:42:06 pm »

Since it doesn't seem like a major problem and it doesn't happen too often, I think I'll try asking you people to see if you can figure out what's wrong with me.

It all started around a year ago. I don't remember the particular indicent, but it's been going on for at least a year.
Occaisionally, after getting up off of a chair where I have been sitting, either normally or with my feet up on a footstool, I experience extremly blurred vision, a sense of dizzyness, and a few times where it happened particularly badly I've basically lost control of my muscles for a few seconds, and everything I touch feels fuzzy for a few seconds.
I ask because recently, it happened to be that I got hit by this, and then actually collapsed on the floor, bruising my shoulder a bit. I couldn't think straight while it happened, and the fuzzyness I described earlier happened. The regular symptoms occured as well.

So far, the only thing I can think of is that I'm sitting wrong, which is cutting off circulation and causing temporarily low blood pressure, causing the lack of control and inability to think properly. It always seems to happen after getting up from a sitting position.

What's wrong with me?

You've got PJS. Poor Judgement Syndrome.
Go see a doctor.

Poor circulation. If you're not old this is bad. Eat healthier, drink more water, see a bloody doctor, lock this thread.

Low blood pressure. If you get up, all the blood suddenly flows out of your head resulting in dizzyness. If you normally don't have low blood pressure, then you should see a doctor.

EDIT: Didn't read properly. If you actually fell over, then definately go see a doctor.

I have the same experience, but instead of "fuzziness" my vision fades to white. I passed out a few weeks ago, getting out of bed when the day before I hadn't eaten much. I've been told it's low blood pressure.

The condition is called orthostatic hypotension. Typically low blood pressure is not a serious issue, but if your fainting is causing injury you should speak with your doctor.

Just aren't getting enough blood to your head. If it only happens occasionally you're fine, if it happens often you might want to get that looked into.

AKA The head rush. I've had these from time to time, although only once was it enough to make me topple. I was pretty unnerved by it but it never occurred again to that degree. As was said above, if it's a reoccurring thing you should definitely speak to a doctor.

This happened to me a lot as a kid. I only fell down one particularly bad time, though. I stood up to put a cereal box away, and when I was in the pantry I went numb, my vision whited out, and I heard a faint ringing noise. My parents were there immediately, so I don't think I went unconscious.

That said, it hasn't happened to me for about 8 years now. I never saw a doctor for it, but it might be worth checking out. If you feel one coming on, sit back down immediately for a few seconds, then stand up again slowly; that helped for me.

Orthostatic Hypotension caused by dehydration seems like the most likely cause. I'll start drinking more, and if it happens again with any sort of severity I'll go to a doctor about it. Thanks for the advice!

Sounds kind of like vasovagal syncope.

I thought fainting generally came with loss of conciousness? I've never had that happen. When it's happened, I've been concious throughout it.

If you're having trouble staying hydrated, I'd recommend eating something salty like beef jerky. It does dehydrate you, but you'll typically overdrink and hydrate yourself more.
