Dwarves make the best adventurers?
« on: March 21, 2013, 09:31:02 am »

So I decided to try to play Adventurer mode as a dwarf today, started off as a Hero Axedwarf, and while traveling by myself I wind up confronting some bogeymen in the night, my Dwarf immediately enters the Martial Trance the moment I wake up and I literally 1 shot all 7 of the bogeymen that approach me with a Bronze Great Axe, and the cackling fades away. Even when the shots were difficult, or tricky, every strike landed, severing parts off in a single hit.

Should I just play dwarf from now on?

The bad part about being a dwarf, in the current version, is that is almost impossible to find fitting armor (you can sometimes find the
steel armor of fallen dwarven heroes in lairs, if you are lucky).

Humans just have to enter any fortress and choose.
Of course, with the new version coming that is going to change.

In a hole in the ground there lived a dwarf. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a dwarf fortress, and that means magma.

Marital trance all the way. Definitely saved some adventurers of mine that otherwise would have died within minutes of creation.

Dwarves are best for flat-out combat, elves are best for mobility. I'm not sure about humans or goblins, but I think their base stats are different.

well martial trance certainly saves lives and rocks and all but did you guys consider how many lives did the full iron/bronze well-quality armor set save? I'm all for humans here, weight and armor ftw!

Marital trance

That sounds even more terrifying then regular martial trances.

If you're having trouble getting some armour together, you can always just make your way back to an abandoned fortress of yours in which you have conveniently left some dwarf size armour lying around. Who knows, there might also be a little room for your Dwarf to sleep in, an endless supply of booze and food and candy weapons..?
Or add [BUILDS_OUTDOOR_FORTIFICATIONS] to dwarves in entity_default and go to a dwarven fort for steel armor.
For me adding this tag for all civs is a must if I play adventure mode.

Does adding that tag fix the non-human sites not generating?

I'd guess it gives the dwarves human-like sites. I'll probably try it out, seeing as the armour should be of correct size.

I love this community. Somebody asks "hay guise how do i tame shark", and then everybody is like "why don't we fling sharks at things with complex mechanical devices?".

They build human stile forts. Citys and vilages have separate tags.

You can't nerf what is legit, Dwarves are known to enter Martial Trances when outnumbered.

Humans are the biggest and tend to be the strongest of the playable races. Goblins do not require food or water to survive.

Pardon me, I literally cannot breathe.

I should probably try out being something that can actually die rather than a cotton-candy colossus...because I could.

When the adventurer is told there is no more need for them, when there are no more targets to kill, why do they act surprised when our "hero" turns towards them and says "No"?

Dwarves are potentially the best. Making a fort merely to make a full set of armor(steel or adamantine) and coming back with an adventure dwarf makes you the best set of armor walking the world. Martial trance is also broken. Very useful against boogeymen.
