He's fine and we already collected it.
Yeah, I seem to have missed a page or so...

Didn't see that coming.
I rolled to see how famous the old man was or if he was even a knight at all. For the lulz. It was uh… It was pretty good…….
And that's what you get for making everything random...

Edit: By the way, are all knights about our size?  And all knights are nobles?  So would a lot of the nobles around be really huge?
Most knights are your size. Litelachians tend to be shorter (5 to 7ft) as they live in the forest, whereas Kiltrans can be even bigger (6+ ft) because [DATA REDACTED], and Oceanian and other knights are of a middling height (6 to 8ft). Patrichlans are all an average of 7 and a half feet tall as adults. Oceania is also the only country to employ Patrichlans in their armed forces, mostly due to their long-standing alliance. Most Oceanian companies have a Patrichlan unit, and they're often used as shock troops.

Kiltran nobles are all civilian, and the knights are generally regarded by them as tools, powerful weapons to be manipulated and used, and they fill a role as special forces, ultra heavy infantry, and lieutenants. In Litelachia and Oceania the all lords are knights but not all knights are lords. They're more traditional in their roles, being commanders, soldiers and chaplains. The lords in Oceania are actually called Senators (male) and Matrons (female), but they can still be referred to as lords and ladies. No other group or country aside from the Church of the Tide allows female members.

So the answer is sometimes.

But what's with the laws here; "Please kill me!"
He just tried to arrest a Senator for a petty crime. Most would be extremely offended and some might have killed him anyways.

He sets down the haunch and wipes his hands carefully using a small silk cloth.

Forgive me. It was terribly rude of me not to introduce myself. He gestures towards the open door of the kitchen and a procession of staff file out with silver plates in hand. They set a multitude of dishes before you, replacing the cold food that was already there and moving it down towards the hungry knights, who let out a pleased cheer that echoes about the cavernous hall. Among the foodstuffs laid before you is Gyong Spoiler Fish stuffed with River Crab meat and sprinkled with delicious spice, Rainbow Snail jelly on freshly baked bread, still golden from the warmth of the oven, Portic pork slathered in a thick red sauce you don't recognise that smells pungently sweet, and brown Holstic noodles with sliced shrimp.

My name is Hokuta Vvoric. Senator of Bané Bané, Grand Marshal of Her Lady's Legions and Champion of the Faltic Order, at your service. He leans on the arm of the throne, resting his chin in the palm of his hand. What would you like to know? You have my gratitude for a wonderful battle and I'd like to repay you for that.

Time-out.

Guys, what's our overall goal?

My guess is: Adventure. We want to go exploring, fight strange foes, discover phat lewts, swoon lady knights & acquire more knowledge & power.

What can we ask of our new friend that would benefit us most, not impose on him very much at all, and therefore leave both parties satisfied?
Lets ask him for tips. Pointers on the world, what he's seen of it, where we might wish to get started.

If we aren't going to go into our bio now, I'd suggest basically explaining all this to him after/when we formally introduce ourselves (now). I suspect he'll enjoy chatting about these kinds of things, and after basic introductions we can ask other questions: faltric order sounds auspicious, what's that all about? Do you have any sentimental attachments to the weapons you gave me, outside the maces & crossbow? Just what exactly is that red sauce?
Be suitably humble, but we could start at a relatively high level of familiarity I suspect. Just don't punch his shoulder in public or some silly scandalous nonsense like that.

((question: did we sign any contracts upon entering the gray blades?))
Also: I hope the gray blades don't have a nasty reputation around here...things might get awkward.

Pleased to meet you Nerev. A good name, Kiltran is it? Forgive me for saying so, but I'm surprised at your manner. You're unnaturally well-spoken for being an Easterner, and a mercenary at that. You must have been quite the soldier. No Artifikata either. I never would have spoken to you had you been one of those monstrosities. Hokuta sits up a bit straighter and takes a draft from his goblet, heaving a mighty sigh that speaks of satisfaction.

The Faltric Order is the chapter of knights gifted with the great responsibility of dealing with the mainlanders. Its both an honour and a punishment, granted me by Her Lady in person, would you believe. We've been living on this Peninsula since.. Well…. Forever! Ha! We're generally not permitted back to the isles once we've been 'recruited'. I've killed many in my day and seen four campaigns through to victory, and I haven't lost a duel until just a short few moments ago.

He scratches at his beard thoughtfully. I don't know why I'm telling you this, Tide be damned. I hate to swagger; you're just an honest looking fellow I suppose.

---

His face saddens visibly. The crossbow belonged to my grandfather, a great archer he was, but a poorer man you could not find. He closes his eyes and bows his head. His hands ball into fists and his knuckles grow white. He was always a proud one, I haven't the slightest doubt that he would be disappointed to see me as I am now.

He looks up again, his face pleasant once more. He'd also want you to have the damn thing. He never let anything go to waste, and I sure as hell won't use it.

Now the twin maces are another story entirely. They're valuable beyond measure. All the gold in the world wouldn't be enough to buy even half of either one, not that you could destroy one if you wanted to. Patrichlan artefacts are wondrous things, powerful and dangerous, with a nebulous nature and origins founded in blood and magic. They are the key to our world's past. It is said that holy weapons just such as these are the only way to enter their sunken temples, in which lie the greatest treasures in all the land. If you ever do venture near the coast, be on guard. They will never cease their hunt, to return what is theirs.

He slaps you on the back cheerfully. No pressure, hey? If you can unlock their secrets, you might find something even better! Just be careful where you swing the damn things around. Fools are always looking to steal them, and many have died trying to delve the murky depths.

---

The red condiment? Why, its only sweet sauce my boy! He roars with laughter, his massive chest rising and falling beneath his fine blue mantle. You mainlanders are good fun! Dunno why the Isles always make your people out to be such a great fuss!

---

EDIT: OP slightly updated. It doesn't reflect the plot, I just think its a cool looking quote.

Nope. You're just a member and they take a small cut from the funds you gain when you complete a job (deduction is never shown). When you boil it down they're just a contracting office but they do have standing forces and can get a good number of supplementary troops together in order to form what amounts to a medium-sized army whenever they need to, either to defend towns and their forts or to join in a campaign. You do sign a contract whenever you take on a mission of course, and defaulting those contracts can get you punished of course. The Blades may offer you a more permanent position should you be recommended or request a promotion. You can't join any other Churches or Orders if you're ranked within the Blades however, as it is policy not to employ officers with outside affiliation to prevent unwanted complications.

Hmm what exactly are we going to do carrying around two maces?  Not like we need one as a backup really.

Oh and for our goals, I'd say adventuring, gaining wealth, participating in a few wars, etc.  Maybe later on try and become leader of some organization or start our own and then start conquering stuff to make our own kingdom?

I like this plan for our goals lots of wiggle room but with a direction.

Eat? Talk with Mr. Grand Marshall. Maybe see if he doesn't have any jobs we could take. Also test out our new weapons when we get the chance to get the "feel" of them.
