will dwarfs fill a minecart from a workshop?

or do I *need* an intermediate stockpile?
it seems odd that you can't select a workshop from the hauling menu for a stop, only stockpiles, but if there's no stockpile assigned, will they fill from anywhere, including workshops?

Pretty certain you need the one tile of stockpile.
