"But why hide when you can simply crush those who threaten you? Is it not more honourable to die fighting than to slowly waste away, cowering in fear, waiting for the killing blow?"
"Because we are not strong enough. There are ten of them for every one mortal in this godforsaken city. And if you would say we could 'crush' them with your help, do you think we haven't heard that all before. We followed one before, we fought with them, and they had none of the power they promised. We died. So now we wait. It is better to live on your knees than to die on your feet, in my thinking, unless you can actually do something"

Will forth tomahawk made of obsidian and bone with beads of stone and feathers hanging from it. Brandish it menacingly.

"How many of you would you like me to kill to prove my point?"

You were planning to have a 15 year old magical girl kill Witches by drinking them under the table!? It's original, at least.

It's almost like it was a bluff. I never intended to kill any. Did my action say "slice the first ones throat open"? No.

Of course, but it gives the wrong image. In which film do you see the good guy trying to threaten the rebels into helping him? (or book or comic or whatever)
Villain = coerce the people by threat and fear.
Hero = Help people and earn their approval by quests and stuff.

Of course we are the Hero, so act like one to be seen as one.

True, but it is more likely that they will tell us not to kill them but someone else. I mean really, it's pretty beta to ask "What can I do to make you trust me?", and that ain't us.

Well, it's simple really. We leave, go headhunting, and bring said heads back wit us. Easy-peasy.

For bonus points, don't even say anything. Just turn around and start walking. If he/she asks where we're going, say "To prove myself." and just keep walking.
