Not that I know of, but you may be able to manage something between a saunter and a limp.

I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

Considering a busy fortress can make even a quality computer lose a lot of fps, I can't see it being worth trying. At all.

Yes, actually. But not natively.

You can use DFTerm on your home desktop and SSH into the game with an SSH app for your iPad. Not the best way, but the only way.

I actually have another post around here looking for similar games to DF that aren't necessarily DF for mobile devices. I was looking to see if it had any replies when I saw this thread.

Can you link it? I need something to scratch my DF itch while I'm at Uni.  ;D

IIRC, DFTerm does not support the current version.

What you CAN do, is host a linux box, put DF in curses mode, and play DF over an SSH connection.

Then any good old fashioned ssh client will do, and there should be some for the ipad.

Just set up a limited user on the linux box, put DF in its home, set it as the owner of the DF folder, and then launch it from the ssh prompt.

Getting reasonable input from the text input method editor for the ipad may be a trick, given DF's use of ctrl, alt and shift keys for some of the combos. Better give that some thought and alter the default keybindings to something easier to pull off on a tablet's virtual keypad.

Another alternative is to plug an accessory keyboard in, but that kinda defeats the portability of the ipad.

An interesting project would be an ssh app geared toward playing DF, that has a better IME intended to allow that in a less painful way.  (Most SSH apps aren't expecting you to be buttonmashing with the emulated keyboard, and expect that you are going to be running shellscripts on the remote instead.)

For v0.31.01, 0.31.02 and 0.31.03, turn partial print off or it won't display DF screen correctly.

Doesn't specifically mention 0.31.04, but I don't think there was much of a change from 31.03 and 31.04 that DFTerm even needed an update.

Dfterm is essentially just a telnet/ssh (it can do either) server, that doesn't drop you at a console prompt, but instead provides a BBS like interface, and allows multiple players to watch and or take turns playing the same world concurrently.

It has some perks about having a win32 flavor, but it still has to be run in text mode.

Theoretically, the ncurses over ssh would be less resource intensive on the host, since curses output doesn't have to go through any other graphics subsystems. The downside is you have to have a linux box to throw around.

Regardless, DFTerm still has the same issue with requiring ctrl, alt, and shift key presses, which will be problematical from an ipad.  The OP should still consider altering the keybindings.

Oh. In that case, it's here. But no one's suggested anything but DFTerm XD

I've not tried it myself but there's a Remote Desktop app called Splashtop that everyone's been raving about recently. You just run DF remotely on your PC from the iPad and play normally, apparently. I've heard it's good for turn based games like civ an xcom especially, so it might be a good fit for DF too. Give it a google.
