Makes me sad that I have 26 bags of 1.4 to get through.  I find the flavor really strong and I don't like it.
Yeah, I jumped in an got a few bags to try out Soylent. Dunno about the other versions, but from the one time I made some of the 1.4 stuff, I wasn't so much able to drink it as I was taking tiny sips while fighting back a gag reflex. :-\

It didn't seem so bad at first, but the more I sipped, the more abhorrent the milkshake-mixed-with-ground-up-whole-grain-cheerios-and-mucus texture and cheerios-mixed-with-(cardboard and playdough? something unplaceably odd) taste became. I haven't tried adding anything to it... but mostly because I haven't been able to bring myself to make any more of it.

Weird - I found 1.4 really strange at first, but after a bit I got used to it. Its best cold though - if you let it warm up, it gets pretty intolerable.

Tastes like a... slightly yeasty flour? Which is interesting since the stuff doesn't seem to have so much as ever seen yeast. It's definitely tolerable, in that I was able to chug a tall glass, but I only did that because I wanted to minimize the amount of time I spent tasting it. I have flavored the remainder with honey, and whiskey. We'll see how this goes after it's done chilling (the original taste was at room temperature, which to be fair is not recommended).

Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Ooooh, yeah drink the stuff cold. Room temperature is waaaaaaaay worse.

So this is 1.5, right? I had 1.4, and it was okay. I ordered some 1.5, we'll see how that goes.

I'm still on 1.3 with oil blend. I'm not drinking the stuff all the time, so that's unsurprising. No idea what the new mixes are like.

Drinking it cold is good. I don't drink the stuff pure though. It was ok at first but the flavor can get tiring. Add flavoring to it, like cinnamon or vanilla or cocoa powder or something. I've been thinking of trying to mix some nutella in with it at some point, I guess with a blender.

Can confirm, much better after sitting in the fridge for a while. Also, vanilla bourbon and honey is a good flavoring.

I really miss plain pre-1.4.  I messed around with flavoring it here and there for the first couple months, but decided that plain was better than every flavor option I could come up with.  Grew to enjoy the texture after the first few glasses, too.

Just got my 1.5. It tastes like corn chips.

Very smooth, almost no grit. No oil blend, the oil is powdered and already included in the mix. I replaced my breakfast with it today, and may do lunch as well. Currently waiting to see how my system likes the first batch.

I'd recommend using a blender or a pitcher with a mixing ball inside because it's very hard to get all of the powder to mix with the water. It loves to stick to the sides and clump. Took me forever shaking the thing to get it to a good smooth texture.

It tastes like corn chips.
Fascinating. I don't think there's any corn in the stuff, either.

Seems time does a number on the texture, as well. Despite the fury of my vibration, there were a lot of clumps when I first made it, but by the time I tried it again in a few hours they'd broken up, and this morning the texture was extremely smooth and rich. Starting the day with the equivalent of a sip of whiskey isn't bad either, although I'm sure anything I feel from that is psychosomatic. Nice flavor though.

Yep, no corn in the stuff. But as soon as my wife tried it she said "This tastes like old corn chips" and now I can taste nothing else.

I'll probably add a dash of vanilla and some honey to my next batch just to improve the flavor a bit. Otherwise I'm quite happy with the 1.5 formula so far.

So has anyone died/become a hyper intelligent colony of amoeba as a result of drinking this yet?

I recently grew a colony of amoeba in my colon that are smart enough to do high school algebra, but not because of drinking Soylent. Not dead from it yet either.

So no to both of your questions.

Soylent has been updated? Smoother texture? I might have to order another set. I had either Soylent v1 or v1.1 and the gritty texture was too much for me to take it down. I could handle the taste (or lack thereof; I used vanilla extract once and some chocolate powder another time to give it a sharper, better flavor) but could never get over the texture. I wanted to try to drink and swallow it whole at the same time and my brain started smoking. :P

I still have a few batches of powder and oil still sitting around, actually. I might have to compare.

The texture of the new batch is 10x better. It's like a smooth/thick shake now rather than water with powder in.
