I can confirm this.
I started up my hammerman today, recruited theonly 2 chumps who could hold weapons, a pikemanand a spearman.

We travel to the lair of some unholy hamster or something, and get jumped by a horde of kobolds.
While i whack away at 3 of them that surround me, each of the mercs duels one of them.
For about 8 rounds straight, they stab them in the feet.
I lay wounded, surrounded, fighting with tooth and nail, while they continue to destroy the feet of the assailants without mercy, jamming their weapons, twisting them, and ultimatly not killing anything until i am bled out.

To be fair, I always aim for the feet or legs, not the horn.
Continued by hacking the arms off, waiting for a chance to take the head off.

Or just downright chopping the upper body off the lower body. That is an option as well

I usually lead with a pike-stab to the upper leg, and then finish them off with either an attack to the upper body or head.

Been reading sagas lately and it seems that even in real life aiming for the legs and feet is a viable strategy.

Letting an armed enemy get a leg up on you is pretty much an instant feetality, and even if you survive you'll be on your last leg. I recommend carrying a crutch. It'll keep you feet for fighting, or at least give you a chance to leg it. You can always heel up and come back later.

Of course its viable, disabling an opponent is the next best thing after killing him...
But really, once or twice should suffice; 8 rounds in a row borders on obsession.

For me it's the leg that gets injured.  I invest a lot of points in dodging and yet somehow, still manage to get an arrow to the knee in almost every game.  It's my most common way of going out.
