The Beginning of a Company

It is early spring in Junon, Capital of the Grigori Lands. It is bustling with men and women of all trades, nations and races. The Grigori had always been known as open-minded. The only thing they didn't accept however was worship of any of the many Gods of Erebus. Whoever lived here has given up worship of his Gods or at least decided to keep it private. The only Temples where those of Wealth and Bureaucracy. And indeed, the Grigori were an nightmare of Bureaucrats. It has taken long to get the needed waivers from the Mercenary Guild, the Accountant Guild and a dozen more Institutions to finally get the Company legally accepted within Grigori lands. A piece of cake considering what the Adventurer Groups had to go through. Anyway here you are in the Fortress that forms the Main Building of the Mercenaries Guild Compound. A Place where upstart Mercenary Groups can fidn a place to sleep, rest and recover.

In front of you is a wizened old man, somebody from the Guild of the Accountants called Goodreau, and his Assistant Pickens, a being undefinable somewhere between goblin, elf and human, a mix you don't really want to closer examine. The sickly green assistant is struggling under mountains of papers and writing utensils.

"Anyway, as requested 3 squadrons of Vultures á 4 vehicles, with spare parts for an extra squadron. Your starting funds and equipment have been funded by a Government Grant as per Mercenary Guild Contrat Number 3B.  Congratulations Captain Hadrianus. You are now a Government approved Mercenary Captain. Now if you excuse me i have better things to do."

with this he wanders off his assistant struggling to follow.

Approaching the captain Vandras saluted briefly.

" Sir with permission I will have the spare materials used to repair my squads vultures, at least one of our squads needs to be in fighting order and traditionally first squad always leads the charge. "

Hadrianus was pleased with his new group, but not pleased with his machines. Pieces of junk, he thought. But they are my junk. It was time to see what his men were worth.

At ease Varandas. I want to speak to everyone. Oi, get here to me. We got stuff to sort out.

Right then boys and girls, before we move out, I want to see those machines combat ready. All of you go to your squads and make sure that the oil isn't leaking when we move out. I will go to find us something well-paid and see if we can put our machines to the test.

Leaving his men to take care of maintenance work, Hadrianus moved swiftly to the administration desk of the Compound to look up potential contracts for a mage-killing machines. He was a very specialized mercenary, he knew it, but he would not be afraid to take on lighter assignments if possible.

Order:all lieutenants are charged with getting their machines as close to100% status as possible. I myself go into the compound to find job or directions to a place where employers might be found.

" Of course my captain, my cowards will begin repairing the machines to stand between them and the enemy right away. "

Have my repair men collect 2 vultures worth of rspare parts and use them to repair my 4 as best they can keeping all 4 in equal condition.

Bring the front walker of my squad to 75% and spread the remaining parts among the other 3.

(( How many parts do you use? The company has 2 sets of parts left over after the 2 I took and Micelus hasn't got any yet, so it's up to you if you use both sets or leave one for him. ))

use only one part. On second thought, save 5% of my part store for emergencies, as well.

Hadrianus
looking through the open Contracts you find several cheap ones. For more advanced ones you either need some connections, more prestige or simply put money in the right hands for the right info.
Right now however these are public Contracts:

Upstart Merchant looking for Guards
A simple Job, a Merchant has organized a Caravan to Foxford, a huge trading post Northwards. The area around it is usually infested with wandering Bandit Clans and on the way you might encounter Goblins, but thats about it. He offers 100 Gold for bringing him there another 100 Gold for his save return.

Miners discovered an Old Ruin
Miners to the southwest of Junon discovered an old Fortress. Currently the Boss of the mine is looking for somebody to clear the thing out, all you find inside belongs to you. Rather a Job for Adventurers but you gotta take what you get.

Vandras, Harold and Hutzillin

Quickly your men set to work and repair as much of the Vultures as you can, butchering the spare suits for the needed spare parts. Questioning them gives not much info, most of them are fortune-seekers from the Mechanos Lands. The Exception are the Pilots of Hutzillins squad which are incidentally all Lizardmen, 2 are from the Wilds themselves living the Old Ways, the third is also a Follower of the Wyvern.

It took but a moment to get a stamp on both assignments and accept them, as well as send reply letters to both employers that a job is taken by Iron Inquisitors. Hadrianus felt confident that those easy jobs would be enough to kick-start the company and give the men a bit of stuff to do while he looked for more contracts.

Accept both jobs.

Hadrianus returned to his company, to see the men hard at work and swiping the supplies as they needed them.

"Alright, boys! I got a jobs for you all! There is a caravan job to do and clearing out of one abandoned spot. Now, I know those sound bit funny to you, but I want to see you take out our Vultures for a spin, see what ticks right and what is creaking.

Now, Vandras, you will take your squads and and go to the mine southwest of Junon. There, the overseer of the mine will tell you about the place to clear. Whatever you find there will be our pay so be careful with it.
Hutzillin and Dusius, you will take your machines and escort a caravan to Foxford in the North. There are some obstacles on the way, but I figure that our vultures should be enough to stave off any bandits or goblins. Bring him there and back and we will get our pay."

He paused for a moment.

Any questions anyone?
----------------------------------------------
After handing out the jobs, go to a tavern most attended by various mercenaries and soldiers. Pay some coin to the man at the bar (5 gold) to forward any potential clients to "Iron Inquisitors" that can be found in the Merc Compound if anyone has a problem with magic. do the same in next 3 bars in the city center and merchant quarter. Then listen in on some political and economic rumours if there are any.

((Remember, most fo the ingame happenings are influenced by what i encounter on the map, so if you encounter nothing on your way to foxford its propably due to lack of babarians.))

Vandras

The Mine is a Days travel away, when you arrive an most nervous Foreman is already waiting for you.

"The Entrance is over yonder. My men will not go close to it."

As you come to the entrance you notice that its sealed with strange runes that make your head hurt. Runes written in blood.

Harold,Hutzillin

The Caravan is not yet ready, it is a big one loaded with incense and reagents which are grown in the areas around Junon. It will take some days of preparation till the caravan can move...propably until Vandras returns.

Hadrianus

5 Gold x 4: [5+1, 2+1, 5+1, 6+1]

You are immediately forwarded to 3 potential Clients.

One is the Governor of Junon himself, apparently having problems with Centaur Clans to the North, although you have to talk to him personally, it is doubtful that he will take on inexperienced Mercenaries, if you can make the right price however...

The Second Contract is also signed by the Officials of Junon, concerning missing farmers to the southern border of the Grigori Lands.

The Third is a Archeologer and Philantropist wanting to mount an expedition deep into the Endless Desert to the East, towards the legendary Pool of Tears, if you ask me he is totally mad...

Move closer, fire flamethrowers at the runes and attempt to burn them off.

(( Do vultures have any kind of radio system to connect them to the other vultures and the captain? ))

Hutzilin and Dussius are to join Vandras in clearing out the fort -they have a deadline when the caravan needs to move.

Go speak to Junon officials about the specifics of the missing farmer assigment.

Join fort-breakers. Attempt to determine the effects of the runes by having someone throw a rock at them.
As for radio, unlikely. Most of the world is still of sword and sorcery.
