I really hope these ships are not what I'm afraid they are... Jim, what would we do if we stumble here on a piece of information vital to the survival of the UWM? Are we going to deal with the task on hand first at the risk of losing our lives and, more importantly, that piece of information? Or... what else could be done? Trying to send away one of us with that information while focusing on the mission objective with the four of us remaining?
... I almost wish I could - or knew how to - pray.

Enter the hard memory with the team. Observe.

Crap. Maybe we should have laid low for a bit instead... too late now.

Get in. If there is any floor nearby in the memory, turn into a tiny little bit of floor.

"Ah shit, this ain't good. Let's hope they have short attention spans, the bastards."

Try to run to a chaotic area of the soft memories and constantly change shapes in accordance, avoiding getting anywhere near the hard ones and trying to appear as part of the swirling chaos whilst escaping.

Those in the Hard memory find themselves back in the familiar scene of viewing the world through the thousand fold camera eyes of the ghost ship, although this time they appear to be in low orbit around a planet. They have the distinct impression that there are other ships out there, also in low orbit, even though they can't see them.

Milno and Pancaek, in the mean time, sprint away from the blobs; or rather float away quickly. However they can't get far enough, quickly enough to break line of sight -do those things even see?- and try to fade into the background. They do, however, manage to stay far enough away not to get punctured.

"Shit."

Keep escaping, imagine myself as moving much faster or, if our movement speed is actually being hindered by our chosen forms, turn into something small that's quicker than the current form (such as a dragonfly if the current perceived speed is slower than a dragonfly's).

If it doesn't work or the form actually does not help within the constraints of the mind, try to search for a spot of the soft memories that seems even more chaotic than the rest to lose the blobs there.

"Hey steve." You speak into the air.
>Yes?
"Could you guys also make a hamburger out of this arm when they cut it off? I wanted to eat it just for the sake of tasting it."
>That is horrible and disgusting. It will no doubt set you apart and create fear in your team mates. So of course.

Jim immediately goes into 'imitate armor plating' mode.

Settle somewhere on the armor plating, keep the dust form.
Watch.

Merge into the ground. There are absolutely no intruders in this memory.

"wooh, dems some angry thoughts there, space ship! Maybe you should go see a shrink."

Keep escaping, Imagine myself going much faster. If (as the good sir Caellath has said) our movement speed is actually being hindered by our chosen forms, attempt to turn into light to go really (really) fast. If turning into light seems impossible, turn into the fastest thing that comes to mind.

In hard memory Jim, Gorat and Marice fade into the background in one way or another, be it dust or armor plating. They feel a tension in air-or lack there of - that isn't entirely their own. The ship itself is nervous, and not only that, it's no where near as uniform as it was before. Now it feels...fragmented yet in concert; like fish moving in a school.  The minds within the ship are acting as one, but they are not one. Not completely.  Far below, on the planet, they can feel something strange. They know where the human colonies are, by virtue of some unknown connection to the ship's computer systems. They know that the altered are moving west in a wall of flesh and leaving nothing but ruin and stripped stone behind them. They know that there are a dozen other ships hovering near by, training guns on the surface. And they know those guns cannot compare to the power they wield.

Every so often there would be a spike of consciousness, of dissent, of fear, or even happiness. But they're all crushed and returned to the gray, neutral of the collective whole. They know they are here to destroy the Altered, but they are also here for something else. They are here to see if they're a success, or if it has all been for nothing.

Milno and Pancaek, on the other hand, are too busy transforming themselves into speeding bullets or rocket propelled cheetahs and then, once they've got some distance between themselves and the blobs, back into nondescript objects which blend into the scenery. They avoid their amorphous attackers.

"Let's wait some more until the heat's off." Milno advises Pancaek. "After some time, we'll slowly move back towards the way we came from, still blending with the scenery."

Wait some more time then do as said above, advancing slowly and carefully and then stopping if any sign of blob movement is seen from a safe distance.

There's no rush, move at most one fifth of the way we made.

The Hard memory part of the team waits and watches as the other ships open fire and white dots silently bloom on the surface below. The ship seems to be waiting for something, maybe a signal from some unseen coordinator, to open fire. As they wait, they feel something rather odd. A pull, as it were, an attraction, to the altered down below. Something in them seems...right, or at least familiar. The feeling vanishes a moment later, but it was odd none the less.

In the mean time Milno and pancaek slink around the soft memory, slowly making their way back toward the Jim and the rest of the team. It's slow going though, with long periods of time waiting for those blobs to pass by. Clearly they need a way to deal with this that doesn't involve just bum rushing the memory every time.
