What's the time limit on applications? I have an idea, but no time to do a writeup today.

There's still plenty of time. Always nice to have a large pool to choose from.

Character Name: Cipher 19 (Lara)
Gender: Female
Biography and Acts of Valor:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Description: Cipher 19 is a brunette woman of around 23 years of age, ocean-blue eyes, her Caucasian skin permanently tanned-she is short and thin to the overt eye, perhaps even sickly, but this is but a cover for an impressive physique gained from her life of service in the Ciphers.

When not on mission, she is usually dressed in heavy coats and scarves as if constantly cold-this is because her own world has a slightly warmer, older sun than our own. She prefers to wear blue tinted goggles casually as a fashion statement, again since the suns of other worlds are usually brighter than her own. She has been described as classically beautiful, without being overpowering-accentuated, without being obvious. She hass the classic look of the best agents, which is to say, barely noticeable at all if she chooses.

Mentally, Lara is a supremely confident person, bordering on reckless-she's rarely if ever experienced defeat or setback, and prefers life lived on the razors edge. In her own mind, she is the best, and has the skills to prove it to anyone. She is reserved and closed off in most ways socially, a byproduct of the close bond with Desmond. When two have shared so much, ordinary friendships can sometimes seem trivial and pointless. She is not in any way an honorable or honest person, and enjoys deception and mindgames. Whatever it takes to win...her only weakness is her greatest strength, which is her bondmate. Lying, hurting or deceiving him is unthinkable-like cutting off her own hand would be.

While she has no qualms about sacrifice, she couldn't imagine living without Desmond...and if her own life could be traded to save his, she would do so in an instant.

Aptitudes: Subterfuge, Retinue/Cipher agents typically do not draw their weapons unless they needed. They rely on stealth, cunning and charm to accomplish their missions, only relying on brute force only if all others options are expended.

They typically carry snubnose pistols, SMG's, sawed off shotguns, knives and swords. All easy to conceal, if needed-and by dint of their environment, less likely to damage the air ships they call home. Cipher agents prefer quick, clean kills from ambush-leaving few witnesses. They do not enjoy protracted firefights, and usually do not engage in them-if given a choice, they will close ground and strike in melee, where their exceptional skill with martial arts and melee weapons gives them an edge.

When forced into open battle, the are trained to travel light, think on their feet, use the terrain, and fight like Hell. They are masters of small arms and close combat tactics-the cramped and dangerous airships they inhabit require extreme levels of personal mobility and dexterity, giving them a style of movement not unlike parkour would be. A certain fearlessness and daring is inherent, when a single bad jump could land one into a deep monster infested sea. Since Cipher agents work in pairs, they typically train for years in tandem fighting, each on supporting the other on instinct-if one Cipher is vicious, two are deadly.

Other: Nearly all of Ciphers stealth equipment runs on fusion driven steam power-at small sizes it doesn't last long, but the effects are impressive-she could many boast offensive and defensive gadgets, though her primary skill is with the steamrapier-a weapon that is like a sword in most respects, in the difference that its razored vibroedges can be turned on at will for a short time, to cut through almost anything. Her peoples scavenger existence has made it so a combination of time, clean salt water and organic matter (such as old banana peels or fish scales) in a backpack sized generator is all that's needed to synthesize the reaction fuel needed to keep them running.

To her credit, she carries very little on her at any one time-relying on wits over technology.

She also has a random assortment of relics she's kept as trophies from her victories, some of which she doesn't even know the true function of.

Retinue: Cipher 20 (Desmond)

Biography and Acts of Valor:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Description: A pleasant seeming man of 26, forest-green eyes, with perpetually messy brown hair and a decent physique. Like his partner, he prefers heavy clothing as if cold, carries little, and seems innocuous. To the untrained eye.

He is similar to Lara in most ways, but a bit more level headed. He is usually the tactical eye that foresees a fight, and tells his partner when the risk is just too much to make the jump, when to slow down and listen. In many ways, he walks an even tighter rope than she-struggling to keep their emotions focused on the mission, to seem supportive but not controlling. He is very careful in his deliberations, but when given a task, he will always try to see it through. While he is something of a killer, he truly lacks the bloodlust that Lara has for battle-deep down, he prefers reason over chaos, and peace over violence. In another world, he would probably be happy as a gardener.

Still, he is no stranger to deception either. While he does not enjoy it, he is no less a master-his strong moral center making him even more dedicated to doing what must need be done, regardless of the cost. He has long realized that he could lie or deceive his bondmate, if he had to-even if he could never forgive himself. It's the sort of person he is.

While he has no qualms about sacrifice, he couldn't imagine living without Lara...and if his own life could be traded to save hers, he would do so in an instant.
Aptitudes: Subterfuge

OOC/Here we go. :P I realize this probably sucks a bit and has a fair amount of errors, but I'm reaaaally tired right now lol
Will fix hopefully when I wake.

(sorry if this is overpowered. i can tone it down if you like).

Name: Alexander 'Reaper' Gorin

Gender: Male

Biography and Acts of Valor: Born on a large space station orbiting earth in the mid 20th century which was under the command of a company called Vanguard. Technological advances had increased a thousand-fold over the last century. Space travel was becoming common and Vanguards technological marvels were unmatched. Due to its dominance, wars were fought between the Vanguard Corporation and the world superpowers. Worried that the wars would wreck their prized home world, Vanguard built and took to huge continent sized space stations in which Vanguard preserved all the cultures, flora and fauna of Earth, with the numbers of humans, animals and plants numbering in the billions. Eventually, when these became full, Vanguard built and expanded onto 6 artificial worlds in a young solar system several light years away from earth, connecting them through instant transport gates known as Q-Gates.

He enlisted into the Vanguard military at 20 (very for the near immortal augmented humans the Vanguard are) and worked his way through the ranks until he was eligible for the elite T.I.T.A.N squads. Before his promotion to the elite, he was a model trooper, brave and resourceful. He served on many new colonies, needed as the artificial worlds themselves were becoming too full, and on many campaigns on the worlds held by their enemies.

He showed promise. First on the newly colonised planet under attack by a marauding alien war fleet, then in his single handed destruction of a solar system to stop the world reaping aliens known as the Purge. His list of achievements is too long to list. One of his greatest feats was the destruction of several dozen solar systems in a neighboring galaxy when the threat of yet another civilisation destroying organic space swarm was sighted preparing for a galaxy jump using a captured Q-Gate after the destruction of three Vanguard colony fleets and 3 colonised Solar Systems.

Description:
Height: 7 foot 9
Eye colour: Gold with a red crosshair when in battle mode, blue when not.
Hair colour: dark blonde
Physique: Godlike

Mental state: Honourable, duty bound, brave, calm, loyal. Prizes humanity over everything and, like the rest of his universes version of humanity, shuns cybernetics, genetic mutations and manipulation that changes the human body away from the human shape. He has no qualms about using nanotechnology, particle physics and genetic manipulation to augment and enhance the basic human body.

Aptitudes: Tech and Shock (I'd have also like Physique, but alas, only 2....)

Other: He can be your greatest ally, or your worst enemy. He doesn't talk much. Highly intelligent and highly augmented using stem cell/bio based nanomachines and nanomaterials.

When in combat, his armour (a mind boggling combination of nanomaterials, synth-muscle protection and shield generators running at least 3 dozen shields) is secreted as nanoswarms from his skin, creating Vanguards ultimate weapon: the Maelstrom Armoured Bio-Nanosuit, or MABN for short.

Without his armour active, his skin is protected from many types of attack due to the threat-reactive nature of the bio-nanomachines in his body and skin. Even more bio-nanomachines reinforce his bones, tendons, muscles and organs, making them extremely tough. Organic, bio-nano-quantum-computers augment his conscious and unconscious mental state and nano-scale memory chips are used to store all technical, engineering and scientific information he could possibly need.

Even with all this, he can still be outsmarted, outgunned, or overwhelmed. However it takes a lot to take this tough cookie down. Usually tanks for the rest of his team.

@Dwarmin: Looks good! About the Shiftspace problems, though - the team will be darting around constantly with state-of-the-art Shiftspace engines, back and forth dimensions if need be. I imagine the ship's tech could let her survive repeat trips in a way the portals from her past could not. If so, there's nothing really stopping them from returning - if they ever do find their home...

@kahn: No need to tone down. I'm pondering on how to represent the MABN - making it a Shield, maybe with some Special Qualities, seems like the most fitting option. Maybe with Armor underneath.

I'll wait a bit more and then choose the players. Do PM additional details about your character to me if you so wish.

Name:  Magnus Jarnhand
Gender: Male

Physical description: A tall, stout man, with blond hair and brown eyes. He has remarkably few scars for his military career - his armor usually takes most of the damage - and is, by most standards, quite handsome. Smooth and charismatic, he talks with remarkable assurance and easily convinces others to trust him.

Mental description: Reputedly brilliant, he would have been an engineer if he had not joined the military. Pragmatic, down-to-earth, and merciless, he is also generally polite and even classy in some cases. He is also remarkably stable for his career - Dread operators are noted for their tendencies to be slightly psychopathic on the side, and he shows no sign of mental unbalance except for light pyromania, which is expected of anybody with his job.

Aptitudes: Shock & Subterfuge: Dread Operators do the most damage they can the fastest way they can in the most vital place they can find, and Magnus is no exception. Infiltrator, saboteur and pyromaniac, he kills with as much efficiency as he breaks into a facility.
Other: Dread operators are the best of the best in the imperial military. Used as elite strike forces specializing in infiltrating the enemy lines and causing massive damage in the shortest time possible, they are reputed for doing alone or in small teams what millions of soldiers couldn't achieve. Their most iconic equipment is the Dread class Battle-Armor, which is equipped with outstanding stealth capacities and, more to the point, a plasma-enhanced flamethrower reputedly capable of melting any metal produced by man. While this is an exaggeration, it is not a very big one.

Yeah, in my mind, Ciphers world is essentially stuck technologically in the 50's, despite some strange advances like fusion power and psionics. They live day to day, nomadic-not much chance for innovation. They can make propeller driven airplanes that never have to land due to their energy source, but advanced aerodynamics and jet engines are beyond them. :P

Most other worlds would have ways around the problems that plague her own reality.
