Two Clothing Questions, Plus Bonus Question!
« on: March 11, 2013, 08:40:51 pm »

Hello All,
My dwarfs have negative thoughts about their clothes rotting away. I've got two clothes makers churning out stuff.
Do dwarfs care about the gender of the clothing?
Will dwarfs get bad thoughts about clothing rotting away no matter what? I can't really tell how much free clothing I have, with all the map litter and such.

Bonus Question:

I've had human traders standing at my depot for a long time, something like three years now. Dwarfs have come and gone, elves, even the human diplomat--twice, and they just stand. They aren't trading, they aren't leaving, nothing. I expected them to go berserk, but that's not the case either. Any ideas?

Thanks for any ideas.

Dwarven clothing has no gender. Dwarfs wear anything if it doesn't have holes in it.
Dwarfs get upset about rotting clothes as long as they have to wear them. They stop complaining when they can wear fresh clothes.

Bonus answer: That's an old bug.

I wonder if the game has become odd.

Thanks for the answers. I'd like to trade with the humans, so maybe I'll have to kill them.

Thanks for the answers. I'd like to trade with the humans, so maybe I'll have to kill them.

Killing Human traders can easily result in a human siege and an end to trade.  They're far quicker to anger than Elfs.
Be patient and they'll be sure to leave at the most inconvenient time eventually.

I'll just bide my time, I suppose. It has been three years, so what's another three?

If they hang around for a full year without leaving or going crazy, they're probably glitched. Have you messed around with multiple depots, are caravan creatures stuck in terrain features or something like that? Unless you manage to get them unstuck, they'll likely hang around forever. Or until an ambush/siege of gobbos knocks them out, which the humies will still count against you.

usually you need to kill several caravans before war is declared. If war is declared, keep in mind that none of the traps that the human diplomat has seen (walked close to) will work on the attackers. After a while a new diplomat will show up to make peace again iirc

I haven't set up multiple depots, but they may be stuck because of some landscaping I've done. They arrived with wagons, and caravans no longer bring wagons. I assume that means I knocked out too many ramps, but I haven't investigated it closely. Maybe they're staying at the depot because they can't get the wagons out or something.

If I find the time, I'll set up a spiral ramp and update the post if that does the trick.

That's a pretty good bet. If new wagons can't get there, the old ones can't leave. Don't know what the actual effects could be, such as deconstructing wagons.

the two most common causes for wagon stoppage are removed ramps, and trees that have grown in odd places.
the shortcut to show wagon access to depot is shift-d, if there is no green blinking W near the map edge, that means there will be no wagons, as there is no 3 tile wide access route

this is also useful to show exactly how far the wagon can go
