In what way? Ants are one of the most efficient creatures on the planet...
besides, no matter how creepy, if they see that it brings drinks;they'll adapt

Turn the force-field into a pocket dimension. We can store the altar in hammerspace for later, when we need to block a tsunami of something.

Compromise position: Turn the mother bear, train the babies to use pyromancy and then eat Alice.

They're not Bay12ers.
And why not start with something they'll immediately recognize as a boon? Which is also more efficient? For the price of making an ant as good as a normal cow, we can probably make that cow subsist on darkness and produce double the normal milk yield.

Turn the force-field into a pocket dimension. We can store the altar in hammerspace for later, when we need to block a tsunami of something.
Or, we can leave it where it is. Remember, the magic isn't in the altar per se.

You were planning to have a 15 year old magical girl kill Witches by drinking them under the table!? It's original, at least.

Any more discussion, or are we making darkness cattle?

Let's see....

Find a few cows, make them subsist entirely on darkness as well as being jet black. Also make them produce copious amounts of milk. Also also make them a "dominant" form--Dark Cows which mate with normal bulls will bear more Dark Cows. Or should they reproduce asexually?

Make sure to inform the villagers of their properties and have a shady place for the Dark Cows made.

Finally, consider a less corny name for them.

The first two might fit if the result looks more like a bison or buffalo than domestic cattle.

The second might fit after a gender change.

Only if it actually looks like a buffalo...and then, Umbral Buffalo sounds better to be. Umbruffalo? No, that sounds sorta dumb.

I have a feeling that darkness, being the absence of light, won't work too well. Perhaps we can make duskbovids shadow-ish by having them absorb the light in an aura around them, converting it into usable energy and cloaking them in shade?

No.

1. We're a God of Shadows. It's unseemly for our creations to die when darkness comes.
2. Darkness is easier to find than light.
3. We're a god. Physics need not apply.

Maybe we just find the source of the water curse, and destroy that?

Hmm, good points. Apart from the third one, since it's probably harder work to go against the laws of physics than to follow them. Since we're just starting out, I'd say it's best to minimise workload, so we have a good supply in case of bad stuff. It's why we chose the cows, isn't it?
