Hematite 1st
Found a way to eliminate a few of the problems, energy crisis which would hit our fort, a proper defense due to the lack of proper metals, and giving purpose to that stairway that led to nowhere. The need to chop down trees and turn them into charcoal (Which is a waste of lumber in my opinion.) would be eliminated, and can use it in a way to flow water from the brook and lava from the volcano to make obsidian stone without restricting the growth of our fortress. I’ve learned from past mistakes to make sure I have access to all supplies necessary to make all components. I’ve already forbid the use of orthoclase, we have an untapped source of black sand for the pumps near the top of the mountain which I’ll also have some glass traps made as well. We may not have any metals better than copper but we do have dwarven ingenuity I hope this ends well. I should probably make the levers two different colors. And there is the issue with bags to carry the sand in. I guess I should name our area new area. I’ve decided on the unwanted guest area. Note: Obtain anvils from next caravan for our forges.

We have another birth in the fortress; one of the miners gave birth to a female girl while… mining. Also one of our hunters (Need to figure out a way to capture alligators to tie up some loose ends in my defense plan, also they lay eggs that are said to be more nutritious than most bird eggs.) spotted a kobold while bringing back a kill. The glazer/alligator hunter suffered moderate wounds to his body but nothing fatal, can’t say the same for our visitor.
(Lost the picture Of the second baby)
Hematite 9th
Another birth. My deceased brother, after the incident with our mother going mad, killing our father and taking his arm off with a carving fork she got on her travels, feels that babies are just trouble. Note: Carving forks are forbidden in this fortress, I know it sounds silly but in the right hands they’re as deadly as a blade. Also need alcohol from elves, sending Strife our designated trader to go make a deal.
(Also lost the picture for her as well)
Hematite 13th
We managed to get a successful trade with the elves. It almost fell through though, it appears that Strife is skilled at determining the value of an item but has some difficult determining the motives of other traders. We got our wine, some thread, cloth and other things from the elves so we are set for a while. Need to set up a few more stills to meet the demand for booze.

Our mayor (When did this happen? Only friend she has is her husband. Need to look into this.) decides to ban the exports of crowns, I’m going to humor her. She probably wants all the crowns for herself. Probably had multiple siblings and didn’t get enough attention as a child, which is strange because children tend to just wander around and as long as a pet, friend or family member hasn’t been slaughtered or kidnapped, they tend to grow up fine, by dwarven standards of course. She is also demanding holding to match her position. She’s lucky I don’t drop her into a volcano for bugging me with such tripe. I’ll finish my projects first then deal with the thorn. I also gave her a pick for digging.
Malachite 15th
Some more migrants have arrived. Such fortune, we are a bit shorthanded here. Their numbers and our own bring is to a total of 61 citizen. We have far too many farmers, giving them other duties as well such as mining and gathering outdoor plants. Note; make more copper picks.
Malachite 20th
I’ve made a mistake; I assume that since he worked as an animal trapper he would be fast but he has not come from the area to breach the volcano. Need to have a slab made, engraved, and built in the magma workshop area to commemorate his sacrifice. (Wait until other see a ghost, I hope he died happy, I’ve heard rumors that ghost can throw awesome parties. My mother was no such ghost.) One project complete, three more to go.
Malachite 27th
Someone finally noticed that he has been missing for a week. No one really seems to care. (Really hope it doesn’t take that long for others to realize that I am gone). Decided to forbid most stones except orthoclase, I need blocks of orthoclase.
Gelena 24th
I don’t think we will receive trade from the humans. I’ve also noticed that my skills have become a fair bit rusty. I’ve order the construction of leather bags so we can gather some sand.
Limestone 1st
Autumn has greeted us, I wish our smith would hurry with the copper chains, I’m tired of everyone complaining about not having a well. I am annoyed about not having any orthoclase blocks so I forbid the use of all stone except orthoclase.

Another female girl was born. According to the file she would be a great candidate for mining.
Didn't lose this one!
Sandstone 13th
It has been a dull autumn, some migrants have arrived and our glazer has withdrawn from society to create something (Hope clay isn’t need.) Back to the migrants, they must have thought this is a zoo, bringing more animals than dwarves. We did get a few engineers with the farmers and crafters. Are total is now at 72. Assigned them extra duties and went on my way to get things finished before my term is up. Also the secretive dwarf claimed a crafts workshop.
Sandstone 19th
The construction has begun! My money is on a scepter.
Sandstone 23rd
I was close, it was a toy hammer. Somewhat disappointed.
