Who got the kill?
« on: March 11, 2013, 04:34:52 am »

So a dragon turned up and i sent out my two Marksdwarf squads (about 6 per squad). They are not very skilled and in the fight it appears they are all dieing to the dragons fire.  I notice one running away to Pickup Equipment and check the health of the dragon and it is badly injured.  I watch the huge brush fire for a few seconds and then check back to the dragon, hoping that the surviving Marksdwarf is on its way back soon, and notice the dragon is dead. I check the combat report and the final line says:

"The dragon is caught in a burst of boiling dwarven ale!"

Who got the kill?

a) The dwarf that dropped the booze on their death
b) The dragon self terminated, due to its own fire igniting the booze
c) !!Science!!

Then shortly after i get a reports that one of my crossbow dwarves and my hunter have been missing for about a week. Not sure if related, will have to investigate.

And outside of my fortress the world is burning.

Fun :)

Nothing unusual here. Move along, move along.  ;D

Combat logs often don't include the all important "finisher" detail. There's a good chance this dragon just bled to death with the booze explosion being an irrelevant detail. As I recall, dragons are heat resistant and their blood is super-heated anyway.

That could be soneone's waterskin with booze.

Regarding who gets the kill - its usually the last living creature which has dealt any amount of damage to the slain creature regardless of whether that was a direct/indirect cause of its death.

Yours seems to be derived from incendiary drinks. Did you arm your dwarves with waterskins as per the usual ration regimen? :P

Also: u > z > k. Viewing the units list, then the status screen of the Dwarf highlighted, and then Kills, if any.

1) Create a copy of your world
2) Abandon the fortress on the COPY
3) Start up legends mode and find your fort in the list
4) Check last few events
5a) See who killed Dragon
5b) Look up dragon's name in fort log and find in Legends -> Historical Figures
5b2) See details of death

The problem is that the trigger is fire and we know how much dwarves LOVE to set fire to themselves for no good reason at all.

PS: Brasil aqui! Depois de um tempo você pega o jeito do inglês, cara, aí é só alegria. Especialmente com DF! :D

Urist McBrewer made his final masterwork. The best a dwarf had ever brewed.
He hefted the entire barrel, charging towards the scaled horror.
Without thought the beast turned and engulfed the Dwarf in flame - too late realizing its error.
A shattering explosion broke the beast and killed it dead. Urist McBrewer was no more.

Boiling booze does not do any damage. Not to dragons, not to dwarves.

Back in ancient 2D versions, before temperature was implemented, it probably did the same amount of damage as steam, but even in the final 2D release it doesn't do any damage at all (just like steam, incidentally).

It's amazing how dwarves can make a stack of bones completely waterproof and magmaproof.
It's amazing how they can make an entire floodgate out of the bones of 2 cats.

Oh, "boiling magma" certainly does damage, but only by knocking units unconscious and slamming them into walls - the only bug there is that it's called "boiling magma" instead of "[rock name] dust".

I remember someone made a workshop that could start fires, but I don't think molotov cocktails are possible. Or rather, feasible. The trouble is triggering the explosion; IIRC, you can either make it so it catches fire at room temp or slightly above, but in that case it would catch fire as soon as it was produced, pretty much, though it might be in stasis while in the workshop. There might be a way to do something with syndromes, maybe. I haven't done much tinkering with those recently.
